My english teacher gave me a weird look when I mentioned that as the musical instrument I played. Like the wtf stare. I had to give her the 'wiki wiki' dj motion to confirm what i meant.

Re: Anyone for a "Weekly Sound Design Challenge"?
Because of how many people seem to be interested, we will start week 1 early. The deadline is Monday, February the 13th. The sounds will be posted on the first page on the 14th. Start designing those sounds!
Remember, upload your sound to your soundcloud and message me the link. The theme for week one is "Sine Wave". Just get a sine wave and do whatever the hell you want to it. Don't forget, have fun!

@Earjax
Yeah, the person with the most votes, well they win. I think we will all be winners though! We will all benefit and "win" something from doing this. Start designing your sound by the way. Deadline is Monday, February the 13th. Just get a sine wave and do what you want. Add filters and effects and make a sexy sound!

Re: Anyone for a "Weekly Sound Design Challenge"?
So whats the goal here? Just to make an interesting sound from a sine wave? Whats allowed and what isn't?
If i clip it it becomes a square wave. If i pitch and layer them up in harmonics i get a saw. I could frequency or ring modulate it, make a kick drum, distort to the point of white noise and make a snare, etc. But then its not really a sine wave.

Re: Anyone for a "Weekly Sound Design Challenge"?
^You can do everything you just just mentioned. Just start with a sine wave and do whatever you want. It would be very cool to make a percussion sound from it. Just do whatever you want, once you used a sine wave at the start.

Any chance we can make the max around the 0.30-1.30 mark, becasue I don't think thats enough time to present your ideas, and showcase your skills.SoundNuisance wrote:-Audio must be 2-10 seconds long. Remember, it is just a "sound" (bass, pad, reese etc.)
I don't think thats a fair voting system, people who do alot of the comments for comments on SC would win. You do know we can run polls on this site? although people cheat with multi accounts ect, still think its a bette wayr though. Or we could just for get the whole comp thing, and just post what we think about the entries in this thread.SoundNuisance wrote:The winner is the person who has the most votes on their soundcloud link. To vote for someone all you have to do is post a time comment on the link/widget.

Yeah, maybe we should just forget about a winner. And I think I will change the time limit, I put an unrealistic range.

Re: Anyone for a "Weekly Sound Design Challenge"?
why is that? This forum has a poll feature, we could make use of that just like every other competition hosted on here.SoundNuisance wrote:Yeah, maybe we should just forget about a winner...

Re: Anyone for a "Weekly Sound Design Challenge"?
I`m in, but really, I don`t understand.
Anything is possible here, there's not a single limitation.
I don`t understand how a winner will be chosen.
If I use FM synthesis I really can do anything with sines.
As VirtualMark said, a sine is a square is a saw.
My question from yesterday still stands, will this focus on synthesis or basic sound design?
Are the results going to be from an effect chain or actual synthesized sounds?

Re: Anyone for a "Weekly Sound Design Challenge"?
I guess we can spilt it into categories. That would make the most sense and would allow more winners and allow people to focus on a certain category.
What do you guys think of this.
FM synthesis, Additive synthesis, Subtractive Synthesis, Granular synthesis, Effect chained. Participants can also mix different types of synthesis.
Just an idea, also let me know if you think of any other categories.

Re: Anyone for a "Weekly Sound Design Challenge"?
^^ I don't agree. That would make this a synth-a-week thing which leaves out sampling. I dont think it should matter what synthesis method is used
Next week, you should pick a video and have us create sounds that match the video in our interpretation
