Oh so you expected him to drop Propaganda?
Re: Very disappointed with Kill The Noise show this weekend
This was totally unexpected, and something we are yet to encounter on Dubstep Forum. May as well rename this place Kill The Noise Fan Club.Xrossfade wrote:buncha haters on here haha. lets all band together and hate on artists and feel better about ourselves, cuz we feel like our opinion matters on the internet....oh wait thats for youtube videos
Remember your own words dude. Nobody else's opinion on music matters, and that includes you.
Re: Very disappointed with Kill The Noise show this weekend
I don't hate it because it is mainstream. I hate it because it comes a cross as soulless mediocrity to me.
James Blake, Jamie Woon, Jamie XX...they've become quite mainstream but at least have some soul in their music. It respects roots but also tries to be something more than just the sum of a musical history.
I just don't see that in a lot of music that is breaking mainstream right now. On the contrary, it is taking several steps back becoming less than the sum of its parts, forgetting musical and cultural roots and also focussing on an entirely different energy or vibe, a rather banal one that can be found in tons of other, more suited musical styles for me.
I also doubt the fact that the likes of Mala are that much more obscure than "Kill The Noise", at least here in Europe. You'd be surprised how many people who dwell in other, non-dubstep, musical circles have heard off some of the great names in dubstep.
In the techno scene, industrial scene, dub scene...

i totally agree with what youre saying about modern music not progressing as much as it has in the past. ive been in the metal/hardcore scene for years and the same post-hardcore shit keeps coming out, theres like a new band every week and its all the same. you can say that about electronic too, and definitely pop. all i was getting at is that in so many discussions in this forum, (which i have been following for a year just havent been a member until recently) theres so much negativity towards artists who have made it big. Its like now in the British metal scene how Bring me the Horizon is made fun of as a sell out metal band who is all of a sudden shitty, when 5 years ago if you listened to them you were cool. Same thing with people like Sonny Moore, who i have been listening to for the past 8 years, years before he became skrillex, and i saw him when he just started to DJ, playing to 10 ppl in LA. So much contempt towards that guy on this forum, and me and my friends met him 3 yrs ago and he hung out with us outside that show. Super nice, awesome guy, but everyone hates cuz he is "ruining" the dubstep genre. He doesnt even call his music dubstep. But now i guess im gonna be labeled a skrill fanboy, just like everyone else. It just sucks some people have to be so caught up in their genres and labeling themjoeki wrote:I don't hate it because it is mainstream. but everyone else does... thats the problemXrossfade wrote:He doesnt even call his music dubstep. But now i guess im gonna be labeled a skrill fanboy, just like everyone else. It just sucks some people have to be so caught up in their genres and labeling them
you get masses of kids claiming that theyve been into dubstep for years, and the only people they know its emogirl, flux pavlova & chase that money....
a lot of the forum members get angry because we get so many people coming through the forum trying to educate us on dubstep & 99/100 times its some midrange cack which we've heard a million times over.
i have no problem with any of the artists themselves, its just the music they make is so far from what the genre was built on that people have come to believe thats what dubstep is.... when the reality is there is so much more if people just opened their eyes & dug a little bit deeper.

Re: Very disappointed with Kill The Noise show this weekend
this thread is retarded you guys are missing the fcking point
he is a great producer, he is up and coming, he has lots of good tracks already
yet he chose to play very mainstream hits from other artists.
THATS IT.
Take your "you listen to commercial brostep and i listen to real dubs" bullshit out of here. I like that shit too who the fck cares it has nothing to do with the topic
if I just got signed to a label and had a nice following going and was playing out in a new city, you would think you would promote your own stuff

he is an average producer at best....Anne Droid wrote:

repackaging a sound thats been done to death....
but you have to realise, the point alot of us are making, is that even if he did play a set of his own stuff, the set would still have sounded pretty much the same...
