Re: Free vinyl...
Lol very true, im thinking phone boxes, but the once someone know they are there, they will obviously start checking all phone boxes.
Re: Free vinyl...
This. Also, 300 vinyl's split between only the people with app and the people with the ability to actually get the vinyls would leave a handful of people getting a majority of them.wub wrote:LinebyLyne wrote:Well i was initially thinking that they would be stashed above bus stops, in and around tube stations, rail stations etc... Not sure that hiding a load of unmarked packages around public transport facilities in London would particularly endear you to the authorities.

Also, unless you're on a mission ting and you're prepared to go driving all around London, wont they all just end up in roughly the same place?
I like the idea, but it definitely needs fleshing out.

Yeh at this stage I am just bouncing around ideas, the actually making of the app and website isnt too complicated, its just the placing of the vinyls which needs some thought.
Re: Free vinyl...
Maybe leaving a code rather than the actual vinyl somewhere would be better? So then people pick up the code and can get the vinyl from you in person? Saves having to carefully protect the vinyl and also means finding hiding places will be easier.

Even better get people to pay for the app, don't put any codes around, sell all your vinyl on discogs, and just claim that nobody has found the codes yet.LA_Boxers wrote:Maybe leaving a code rather than the actual vinyl somewhere would be better? Re: Free vinyl...
Came into this thread hoping for free vinyl.

Re: Free vinyl...
Yeah, this. But why hide the actual vinyl, why not some kind of token in a laminated sleeve you could attach to a lamp post? Or make some stencil graffiti or even just little posters/ stickers and people have to find and photo them?wub wrote: Not sure that hiding a load of unmarked packages around public transport facilities in London would particularly endear you to the authorities.

QR Codes, I think this would be perfect, you scan the QR code with your phone then it takes you to a website to confirm the item has been found with a contact form etc.

Re: Free vinyl...
Thinking about it though, would people be really up for searching around london just to scan a code to then later get a vinyl in the post or actually finding the vinyl and having it in there hands...not sure

Re: Free vinyl...
But you know the issues with vinyl lying around as we mentioned.LinebyLyne wrote:Thinking about it though, would people be really up for searching around london just to scan a code to then later get a vinyl in the post or actually finding the vinyl and having it in there hands...not sure
If you market this correctly I can`t see why anyone would have an issue with a code as long as they had the reassurance they would receive the vinyl.

Re: Free vinyl...
I think QR codes would be the best. You can tell who finds it first, and also they would be very easy to leave in plain sight without getting taken away/tampered with.
Any random dude could come across a vinyl and pick it up.

Re: Free vinyl...
Not forgetting that Apple takes a 30% or so cut of of the app price, so you'd be left with about 50p per app. You'd therefore need to find at least 1200 people who:Burning Sphere wrote:Sounds a good idea at first, but if you're looking to make more than you would from selling the vinyl privately, even if you got something ridiculous like £2 per vinyl, at 300 records that's still £600.00. That means for it to work for you, at 69p per app that's at least 870 fuckers who are better at orienteering than me hunting round a city I don't know particularly well for tunes I might not even like
Good luck with it like
a) are grime fans
b) are vinyl fans
c) are in london
d) own an iPhone
not to mention the cost and time of you driving around to 300(!) locations and hiding the records. I like the idea but there are a lot of difficulties

Yes Osario there are alot of variables that need to be ironed out, I really like the idea but its all a question of how many people are going to be willing to do it, its needs to have a fair hype about it or it wouldnt be worth it.
Re: Free vinyl...
Will the app have any use after the hunt is over?
