Is American high school that bad?

Post by Neptune » Thu Feb 16, 2012 7:04 pm

You hear people saying high school was some of the worst years of their lives, and it's just a thing to get over and done with. Is this true?

How did you find high school?

What is/was your high school like?

Is their any truth in the American teen movies? Are 'cliques' really a major thing? Do cheerleaders constantly wear their uniforms??

depends. in the cities your graduating class may be massive (mine was 2300 people). In my scenario school was more so public babysitting. I've dated girls from my graduating class as an adult who i didn't even know existed in high school simply due to our schools size.

I had cousins who lived in smaller towns and had graduating classes of like 50 or 60 where everyone knew everyone and shit was much more controlled.

Girls wear cheerleading uniforms usually on days that they're cheering a game. Same as guys usually wore their football jerseys day of game. Tho some schools had to wear shirt and tie on game day... something about doing business being professional.

Most american teen movies are just exaggerated versions based on truths. I had my clique but i sold dope so i kinda cross migrated cliques a lot.

When we had basketball games, we had to wear shirts and ties. The best part was that the NBA didn't even have the dress code in effect yet; I always felt like such a dork :cornlol:

Pkay summed it up perfectly though; the movies are just exaggerated truths. I mean I could probably name a dozen 'cliques' in my graduating class (I ended up going to a smaller high school, my grade may have had 200 ppl), but its wasn't like we all hated each other. You just hung out with who you could relate to the most.

Personally though, I only liked the social aspect of high school. I wouldn't go as far as saying it was the worst thing in my life...but I'm not like most people I graduated with, and say it was the best thing to ever happen to me.

it was far from the best time in my life, but i didnt hate it. I was social, got bjs from bitches, and finger banged ho's in the auditorium on the reg. Can't complain about that.

It was just different from real life. American schools do not prepare you for the difficulty of college

this 100%, about pretty much every aspect of it.

public babysitting also sums it up well.

And as I brought up the other day in the SNH chat; nothing was better than partaking in the North American tradition of skipping class to bang a broad in an (insert 1980's car here. Mine was an Oldsmobile). 8)

Honestly depends on where you live and whether you can find people you like enough. Schools in DC are completely different from schools in Kansas. My high school experience was pretty great, if a bit boring. I always hung out with the nerd types.

Middle school is shit just about everywhere though.

..that cat is damn near sexy...

My school had 4 difficulty levels - AP/Honors, College Preparatory, Standard, and Special.

I can say that my experience was completely different than that of say - my little cousins who are delinquents..

People involved in certain activities were allowed more freedoms...exp.
I was part of "The Green Room" - which was the theater kids - arts and photography students - great books etc.

We were allowed to get our lunch and leave the cafeteria to eat backstage...and I'm glad for that...
The practice has since been restricted...

I'd say that "Amuricans" in general - don't appreciate academics as much as other countries...
- but I say this as a weak generilization - because I know plenty of people and families in which academics are paramount..

I do have a books worth of true life teenage fuck-up stories though - incredible ones..

like - the football coaches son becoming a crack addicted male prostitute
who robbed a mall jewelry store at knife point and got caught...

I went to school with the children of 3 mob families - the Troises', the Maffas', and the Merlinos'
All three - fantastic stories...

The first and last hip-hop party that I tried to attend was driving through a gun fight in the parking lot...
That was nervous...

But mostly I chilled at the underaged dance club at the beach with the freak kids...

sounded like...

:t: Mine was uneventual too, if I'm honest, although the way I remember it was torchure and misery. Also, if I'm out of the area, my hardcore city Baltimore HS experience was like
