Help With Ableton Workflow
I'm trying to currently become more acquainted with Ableton. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm coming from a logic pro background, and trying to get more into this workflow, because I feel like it could be inspiring if I can learn to use it effectively. Tips? Tricks? Not technical "press command + c to copy" but more how do you get into the mindset? What IS your mindset to get inspired on Ableton?

Re: Help With Ableton Workflow
one thing that really helped me is to create a template that ableton will load.
when i start ableton i have all my instruments laid out, midi notes preprogrammed, channels grouped, return tracks set up, EQs on every channel, etc etc
pretty much everything i would normally have to do on a track is already done, so i can focus on making sounds and fitting things together in arrangement, not setting up channels and getting fx together etc etc

Re: Help With Ableton Workflow
Agreed but just be careful not to go too crazy with racking up everything and getting a giant template project set up. It's good to have things you'll always need handy but I often find myself deleting almost every part of my template as it tends to get needlessly complex with the setup I had. A balance of intuitive workflow vs. room to get creative is good.Anne Droid wrote:one thing that really helped me is to create a template that ableton will load.

I like Logic's workflow a lot more than Ableton's.

I love Logic's workflow, I'm a huge supporter of it, especially when comparing it to Ableton, which I've worked with a lot

You know it.
And proud of it.

What this guy said. ill.gates is a genius with ableton. Also, do you work in session view or arrangement view? I've found that unless I'm doing a live performance, session view can be a brick wall when trying to create a song.Insahn wrote:Look up ill.gates as well
Re: Help With Ableton Workflow
Yeah I dont use the illgates template because i have built up my own drum rack full of samplers. But the EQ racks and effects are worth it. Some of the best money i have ever spent.DefKone1 wrote:What this guy said. ill.gates is a genius with ableton. Also, do you work in session view or arrangement view? Re: Help With Ableton Workflow
make a simple mix in arrangement mode, this is how i started...a mix is pretty straight forward, u dont have to worry about locating any of the effects etc, unless u really want to use them, this should get u in tune with the layout pretty rapidly.
then load up some samples in session mode and jsut trigger them off, and ull quickly realise how easy it is to develop an idea in ableton.

Ableton - constant switching between the windows, a pain in the ass, and the arrange window is incredibly inefficient
Logic - you have it all right there, with all the windows accessible at the click of a button, much smoother and well put together.
Re: Help With Ableton Workflow
I never find myself switching between and windows. the only 'windows' i think you might be referring to are arrange and session view?Sonika wrote: Ableton - constant switching between the windows, a pain in the ass, and the arrange window is incredibly inefficient

Yup, that's what I mean. It's constant and super annoying.
