Re: Halfstep tunes!
What exactly is halfstep? What makes a halfstep tune different from a fullstep?

God, thats who.

Re: Halfstep tunes!
I can't put it into words, maybe cause I completely lack musical training. But you can hear the difference, halfstep tunes sound "emptier" or "spacier".Dub_freak wrote:What exactly is halfstep? What makes a halfstep tune different from a fullstep?

Nice tune, I think the bass was a bit too much for whatever it got ripped on!

If this is the future, it seems highly livable: shiny, cool and comfortably dissonant. Like a low dose of ketamine in an empty, luminous airport hall in northern Japan, eating avocado and waiting for the universe to arrive.

Hey thanks a lot for posting my track in the OP!! (I'm rafiki
Here is one of my mix, i believe its mostly halfstep
It's definitely hard to know what exactly halfstep is. same bpm as dnb, just slower and deeper.

Re: Halfstep tunes!
it's easy, the tempo of the beats are half time, for dubstep the beat would be running at 70bpm instead of 140, for dnb it'd be at 85bpm or whatever.NeoWave wrote:Hey thanks a lot for posting my track in the OP!! (I'm rafiki

yea instead of
boom smack boom smack
its boom smack
boom smack boom smack
its boom smack
Re: Halfstep tunes!
I just think of it as "spacier", "emptier" dubstep/dnb tracks. Simple right?rayman612 wrote:yea instead of

I mean obviously the space between the "boom smack" is farther than in "boom smack boom smack"

Re: Halfstep tunes!
not really
its literally just different placement of the drums
there are spacey tunes that arent halfstep

Re: Halfstep tunes!
but they don't have to be. instead of boom smack boom smack it could be boom boom boom smack, no extra space, but still halfstep. it's just about tempo, the tracks can be just as busy if that's what the producer wants (i'm sure there's some great examples of this, can't be arsed finding any right now but, i might in a bit if i can be bothered).
edit - i kinda said what rayman just said, but in a different way. didn't see his post.

Re: Halfstep tunes!
listen to the drums before & after 2:00
not that difficult
halfstep has 1 snare for every 2 snares
halfstep 0:00 - 2:00
after 2:00 is double
Re: Halfstep tunes!
