yes.. The topic "The best dubstep producer ever" means to me, who has the most talent, not who is your favourite producer. As much as i dislike the "skrillex growl" and Knife party bleep/siren noises, both artists are insanely talented and have similar mixdowns with huge drums that cut through IMO better than most other producers making dubstep right now, even if the beats are just a simple kick, snare, kick, snare pattern. Also, i've never seen any of their tunes get a bad reception at a big event, no matter how many haters are in the crowd.Electric_Head wrote:are you serious?6ense_muzik wrote:Im sorry to say it, but, best mixdowns have to be Knife Party and Skrillex.
Also, if you hadnt guessed, I would like to f**k skrillex in the ass!!

Re: The best dubstep producer ever
I have no issues with him or Knife Party, I just don`t feel they have the best mixdowns.
I good mixdown to me is one which maintains headroom, is crisp, clean and clear.
I`m not a fan of high-end sibilance and noisy screeches but when mixed and eqed correctly, it`s not an element that should stand out soo much that you are annoyed by it.

Re: The best dubstep producer ever
It's not all about the mixdown. Sometimes it can sound too clean.
Re: The best dubstep producer ever
^ Agreed. Heavy music needs heavy mixing. It's different to mix heavy and deep stuff.

Re: The best dubstep producer ever
I agree that Skrillex and knife party are talented, but I would choose almost any of the older dnb heads at being better. Feed me, Kill the noise, and noisia all have much better sound design and much more complicated melodies (particularly feed me). And it seems to me like Skrillex is using the same sounds that he used when he first started, and honestly most of his stuff sounds the same to me (the only thing that's a bit different is hes progressive house stuff as it's not so in your face). Yeah, you can usually tell a track is a noisia track, but them and feed me are always coming up with new sounds. The only one that's touching any of them IMO is Koan Sound.6ense_muzik wrote:yes.. Dj wanka. His mixdowns allow me to clearly hear what he wanted me to hear, his sub bass rattles my ear pussies, and his drums are punchier than a kangaroo on pcp.
Listen to the Phil Collins Dub (i like the original more, the VIP seems kind of.... wanky) if you want to hear his stand out tune.
Safe.

I dunno. His newest remix of burial didn't have enough yois in it imo. He's given up his roots to sell out!

In my book, Poseidon will always be the best. Nothing has ever come close to matching him (in my eyes).
Re: The best dubstep producer ever
I'm gonna go with Koan Sound, simply because I've never been more excited to hear someones new music than theres.. and sleeper/district.

A lot of their mixdowns have no headroom though, giving it a "maximalist" feel. The lack of headroom, in my opinion, is a bad mixdown.6ense_muzik wrote:yes.. Re: The best dubstep producer ever
thats not headroom... its space
afaik you basically want zero headroom left over on a master...
Thats different than writing a track with space in it
all that bullshit sucks though, who cares how crisp the mixdown is. Britney spears tunes are mixed amazingly, but the tunes suck.
The topic wasn't "best dubstep mix engineer" was it??

It HAS to be Skream, beginning to now, evolved, grown, makes so many styles.

I agree, I mentioned them in my original post. But wanking aside, I'd have to choose KOAN sound. They bring the heat pretty much everytime, and no other producers have me scratching my head wondering how they made their bass do most of the things they do. Haha.
