Always thought the drops in awful dubstep were quite weak. Distance makes a nice drop.

iZotope Artist Interview - Skrillex

Post by Cutzilla »

Just stumbled upon this, figured I'd post here. A few simple tips with busing tracks to stereo wideners and his advice on how he developed his "monster" sound.

his notoriety is almost exclusively fan-driven, with little-to-no marketing muscle behind it.

Dark dubstep, fair amount of unsigned/amateur tracks from the forums too.

Izotope decided to cash in with their official T-Pain plugins. How long before they make some Skrillex plugin? I'm surprised no one has yet actually.

the bad thing about brostep is so many dickheads kids listen to it / try to DJ it... its a lot harder to DJ properly than other forms of dubstep because everyone who produces it tries to have the loudest and most agressive sound, so dynamic choice is very limited. a pure brostep set will destroy your ears...

basically my point is... dont go to a brostep show unless you know the what the DJ is like and whether he'll do a good job djing. otherwise you're in for a seriously crappy night.

Coki, distance etc etc for intelligent tear out type music although theyre both over rated. Shit thats just centred around a job, follows the same old 140 pattern with no sub bass or space is what id class as brostep.

in this case DAW matters, the full version of FL that you said you bought will give you more possibilities than Ableton Intro...

and for the drop, i make a bass with a hard hitting attack, and go from there. So it punches real hard on the initial downbeat. Listen to my sig track for an example

Good music doesn't need commercial money to spread, and skrillex made something outstanding in 2010 and got the well deserved recognition and spotlight for it. It's also funny to call him a sellout, since he made something original. The people who copy him are the sellouts. I love his music, I'm not listening to him as much anymore since I overkilled my playlist with him in early 2011. His new EP is ok, but I hope to see something new from him this year. Big props to him, hes really committed to music, it's his life and it shows in his tunes. Let him be an icon for you to follow and don't be jealous cause u're not that committed to music.

And at last thanks for the post, some usable info about using ozone's features!

Have a nice weekend guys!
