Outlook 2010 vs Outlook 2011, and thoughts on 2012

I know its been a while since outlook finished, but I was looking at possible festivals for this summer. Echo & dimensions come to mind now. I went outlook 2010 and 2011, I'd just like to hear what the general consensus was of outlook 2011 in comparison for people who'd been to 2010 and beforehand?

I don't think I'll be going back for 2012. I think that in 2010 there was a real family vibe and that if you were at all in abit of a bad way someone would come help you out. Whereas this year a friend who's another previous outlooker was well pissed and some sted-head went and hit him in the face a fair few times for no apparent reason. Wasn't really feeling the development of the two new stages either, I much preferred dmz in the mungos. Don't get me wrong I still had a great time but it just wasn't 2010 i guess. Campsite was such a shit hole this year as well compared to last year. My mate also thought there was more Europeans in 2010 than 2011 which may have possibly been one of the reasons why security were so heavy handed this year due to the stereotype of British tourists.

Are there any other festivals anyone else is looking at this summer?

i went to outlook 2010 and it was amazing! big vibes and would say it was one of the best festival id ever been too.. heard really bad things about 2011 tho so i wont be going back this year... sad

Outlook 2008 was good fun. Lots of hiccups in organisation, but had a relaxed good time with a good variety of music. Wasn't crowded at all and if you walked out a bit you could find a quiet spot on the beach easily. Everyone was friendly and the vibes were great!

Outlook 2009 was fun but some of the crowd was a bit meh and aggy. Last thing I wanted to hear was how some guys got beat up by the locals the night I arrived. Or some random girl trying to smash a bottle to threaten some other girl with right next to the pool party (hilarious when she failed to break the bottle though). Sets and vibes were mostly alright, but it got a bit tiring after hearing the same 5 tunes for the 10th set. There wasn't as much variety in the mixture of music played. But for the most part people were still quite friendly. Locals were quite stressed though because of impatient, aggy Brits.

2010 was stupendous and just really good in every way. I don't think I've met a single person who did not want to go back the next year. Setting was great, sound was great, vibes were great, people were great. 'Nuff said.

2011 was...messy. Music and sound was good. The majority of the people were friendly, but there was a large number who were just too aggy and dickish. Some dick tried to pick a fight with me during the Digital Mystikz set for fucks sake. A lot of it seemed like an episode of Skins but on a festival scale, people behaving like they'd never been let out before. And a whole stage/night devoted to Circus Records??!!!??? I had some good times, but would not go back to that again. 2011 was to 2010 what 2009 was to 2008.

2010 I felt there were a lot of wankers everwhere who were there because it was the cool thing to do and just wanted to get wasted and wear glasses rims with no lenses in. 2011 there was the same thing except having the main stages meant all the wankers were gathered there instead.

What I mean is that if you have Flux Pavillion playing on some massive stage the chances are all the people I can't be arsed with are there while I'm off watching Untold play to a crowd full of people who actually know the music a little more.

I encountered nothing but sound people 2011 where as I got stuck next to really obnoxious people 2010 cause I guess there were less places for them to go.

Saying that though I did run into one twat last year who decided to steal the free outlook t shirt I'd been given that was over my shoulder. However he wasn't fast enough to run away and I ended up choking him till he let go of it. haha. Even then though he said he didn't want to fight and we apologised to each other and talked for a bit.

They said if it was a croatian festival there would be fights every 2 seconds. so yeh... i dont think they got the impression we were a load of aggy brits to that...

they absolutely love a fight though, guy who i work with is from slovenia and when i ask him how his night out went the answer can only ever be positive if he gave someone a right kicking. nice guy though

2008 was the one, haven't been to any others but from what ive heard as things have got bigger the atmosphere has got worse.

only been last year but boying it off this year, gonna go to bloc weekender instead, the line ups so much better, its in london (so i dont have to pay 170 for travel).
Did have a good time last year at outlook but there were quite a few wangs in the crowd and i feel its only going to be worse this year!

i hope it's not worse this year... i mean there was plenty of bellends about but it's pretty easy to just ignore them, everyone that i spoke to was properly sound. would have loved to go in 2010 cos it sounded better but i mean so far this year the lineup doesn't have any flux pavilion etc or that much mainstream student kinda music so maybe they're trying to sieve out the knobheads

I know I always bang on about this, but 2010 was amazing. Amazing vibes, amazing people and music. It really did have a family vibe, which it didn't have in 2011. 2011 wasn't as friendly, but the music was on point. I'll be really interested to know what 2012 will be like. I bought a 2012 ticket because I was all nostalgic about 2010, but I swapped it for a Dimensions ticket because it's smaller (5000 people i think?), but I'm not sure if the Dimensions crowd will be friendly, I have a feeling there will be a lot of snobby people. Guess I'll have to wait and see!

I know everyone goes on about how aggressive/unpleasant 2011 was, but I really didn't see it. I went alone and had the time of my life. I've never met so many friendly people in one place, seriously. I can't wait for this year's.

I went 2010 and 2011 and definitely agree with 2010 being better, smaller friendlier crowd and the vibes were perfect, mungos arena was the one!! 2011 the music was on point and i still had a good time but there were a lot more dickheads about I heard about fights, some girl getting raped, just pure aggyness at times plus with the amount of people the beach stunk of piss because the queues for the portaloos were so long, rubbish everywhere and was generally unpleasant. still think i'm going again this year and i hope they sort out a lot of the problems which they said they are trying to do, I reckon its gonna be hit or miss this year the main reason i'm going again is because i don't feel there is a better festival for dubstep and the vibes i witnessed in 2010...hopefully this year will be better

I'm not saying it didn't happen, I certainly don't think anyone's been making it up, but it was possible to go to the festival and not see any of that.

My experience involved meeting people on my flight into Venice who were heading to Outlook and spending the night wandering around with them and hanging out. On the transfer bus everyone where I was sitting got to know one another, we all camped together, introduced ourselves to all of our neighbours, and spent the week relaxing on the beach and meeting up with each other at stages. The girls we were with never felt threatened by anything, none of us ever felt unsafe, our tents weren't broken into, we didn't get into any fights, and everyone went home happy. That's an experience that I can confirm was shared by the 30+ people I ended up with.

Again, not saying the negatives didn't happen, but I just want people who might be considering going for the first time to know that the festival wasn't one giant clusterfuck and that it won't be impossible to a good time.

There were definitely a lot of sound people about, I met up with quite a few and made a few new friends. Also had an extended chat with a couple of Canadians on the very last night while eating. So it wasn't all bad. On the whole I'd say I did enjoy myself at Outlook 2011 but preferred 2010.

Amazingly, the disaster that was the Italian Transport Strike actually turned out quite well and we had a relatively good time just trying to get home!

I like the fact you have a good chance of running into a lot of DJ's at the festival. Not like some massive thing like glastonbury or whatever where you have 0 chance of it unless you are backstage.

Last year caught N-type on his way down to dock stage just him and his dubplates. Caught kromey near the restaurant, lost front and centre at the start of DMZ night. Ran into G-double, thats just off the top of my head. Goth-trad at the bar on DMZ night aswell. I think the sunshine also makes everyone so much more approchable (even though they are all very approchable and top blokes in the first place).


Just don't walk around with Grand for any more than 5 minutes, because he fucking knows EVERYONE!

I loved outlook 2009 because of the location. It was small and intimate. dubstep belongs in a club. therefore I didnt like 2010 because of the big stages.. and the huge amount of naive and selfish uk lads and chicks. so I skipped 2011. and probably I will generally skip outlook.

It's like that on most good dubstep nights. In London anyway. And probably Bristol and Leeds at the very least.
