just ordered an akai mini
Hello everyone, im new to the forums and just thought i would ask your opinion on the akai mpk mini controller. I have been useing FL studio 9 for a little while now and have had some trouble with the piano roll while making dirty wobbles and thought having keys would help me out. I just ordered it yesterday and should be here monday! At first i was looking for a basic sample launcher and was told to get the m audio trigger finger but as you know it is no longer in production, and the ones on ebay are stuck in bid wars with dudes who want be sooney moore lol. Anyway for 80 bucks on amazon i thought it was a good deal. From what i understand i can controll my wobble in massive with the knobs? Any insight to the minis capabilties would be awesome. Thabks gents!
Re: just ordered an akai mini
Yes you can control stuff using the knobs. I use Ableton so I'm not sure how you map the midi control in FL but it's definitely possible. My only problem with it was that it didn't map properly with Ableton, so I have to manually map my knobs/pads to functions. It's a good first keyboard though, and a hell of a lot easier than jamming with a piano roll! Only thing is now I want another couple of octaves to play with.

I have one, they are great for the price and seem fairly well built. Filthzilla will not be happy with your name ^

Re: just ordered an akai mini
Thanks for the info wobzilla, piano roll is def a pain in the ass. Only thing im worried about is my laptop recognizing the controller. I run linux ( windows is garbage imo and a mac will put me in the poor house lol) so everything isnt plug and play. Im fairly savey with it so hopefully it runs well.

I have one, works well with FL.
You can quite easily map the knobs to synth parameters and record the automation.
My only problem is that I haven't actually got round to setting up the pads to work well to record organic drum hits yet.
But other than that I really enjoy using it, it makes noting down chords and progressions so much easier - especially since I have no musical training.

Re: just ordered an akai mini
It being portable was a big seller for me. My friend has a pretty nice PA so ill hopefully be rockin a few ragers this summer

Re: just ordered an akai mini
great stuff, the only turndown is there is you cant set your knobs to control pitchbend.. since the knobs only capable of sending 127-128 (I'm not sure about the exact value and cant be arsed to google it
) signals, and pitchbend needs ~8000 its a different thing.. but if anyone knows a method hit me (us) up!

mpk mini is awesome just be really really really careful with the usb jack. mine broke off during me just moving it across my studio with the cord still plugged in. a lot of other people have had this same problem and yr basically left with a 100 dollar brick once its done so just stay safe ya

Re: just ordered an akai mini
My controller came in yesterday and after a few minutes setting it up with fl I began to mess around with some loops and noticed a pretty anoying lag between action on the controller and sound production. Low cpu or a setting i have over looked?
Re: just ordered an akai mini
Sounds like it's to do with your CPU. Try checking your midi settings in FL.
