Im not sure what people say when they mean half step and where the snare should fall?

Put a bass drum on the 1st beat of the bar and a snare on the 3rd beat of the bar. add some synopated high hats or a chopped dub break. Try a few high freq percussion to give some layers.

play around with more bass drums to add movement.

Listened to your track btw. The vocal bit is dodgy...like an audio book in the middle. Like the rest of it tho...nice hip-hoppish beat...roots manuva-esque
