synth help (mount kimbie/james blake sounds)
can anyone help with those simple sine organ sounds? i've gotten close using ableton's operator, but still sounds cack. I also realize a lot of what sounds nice here are the chords they use, can anyone point me in the right direction? here are some examples.

also simple, but still can't get it down right; trying to do those percussivey mellow synth sounds heard here:

So this guy seems to have made some james blake organs pretty well. (<- grammar is wrong) Hit him up.

But I think this is like asking how to get brad pitt's nose so you will look like brad pitt. The point being its the whole thing, all his elements all together that makes each sound sound the way it does. Anyway, best of luck, post up some raw samples of the sounds you've made. !!chea

edit: ohh you werent talking about about chords sorry...
sounds like electric pianos, or triangles lowpassed, and fucked with pitch wheel
also some effects from dblue glitch plugin if we talking "bave chords" tune...
i would start basicly with some proper chords and progressions, then fuck with pitch and effects...

Tell you what, I was astounded with how well this worked...
Using a sub sample that I'd pitched way up so it was more of a bleep (so the notes you play end up being different lengths and a bit more loose) then it was a combination of Camel Crusher on, I think, the first preset that mentions "English..." something or other (can't remember off the top of my head) then a guitar cab simulator, with a little bit of tremolo and phaser. Sounded horrible and thin, but somewhere along the line, I pitched it way way down after bouncing it and it sounded sooo thick and warm
Ha, just realised you meant chords as well... but I stand by what I said- one of the best happy accidents I've had so far

blake uses a prophet 08 in the bbc vid.
raw analog waveforms (triangle/saw) lowpassed, with some vibrato (lfo > pitch)
as mentioned, speaker sims definitely help it sound 'real'....
you're right though the feel is all about the chords.
blake has a better grasp on harmony than anyone else in dubstep imo.

Re: synth help (mount kimbie/james blake sounds)
Hi,
I saw james blake live the other day. I'm not gonna tell you how great it was, cuz I can't find the words to describe it.
But I do have this question.
The whole gig I've been trying to understand how he does that thing with his voice going through the Prophet 08.
It's like it's duplicated with each different note he plays on the keyboard, which sounds like a futuristic gospel choir.
(Like so: http://www.bbc.co.uk/music/artists/8dc0 ... 8#p00d4900)
Could anyone tell me how it works with the Prophet 08 and if I can do something similar with a softsynth?
I've been very influenced by the gospel choir harmonies and I've been trying to recreate those in my music.
And this seems to be an awsome way to get those harmonies.
Thanks!

Re: synth help (mount kimbie/james blake sounds)
Lol 6 months later.. I have a massive patch that sounds like that soft synth James Blake uses if anyone's interested...
Re: synth help (mount kimbie/james blake sounds)
Go for it.
I'd rather screen shots if possible?
Usually I use both filters, one for the clippy, smaller sounds, and another for the low sustain. Also use some vibration from the macros.

I'd love to see a screen shot or grab a ksd file from you.

One thing I did a few months after this post is use Melodyne to pitch my voice to different octaves in a sample, then I flanged a bit and vocoded.zerbaman wrote:^^

Sounded pretty good imo(this isn't the cleanest cut of what I did, I'm not gonna be making the original version of this tune available any time soon (too much un-edited vocal for my self esteem) so it's the best i can do):

Re: synth help (mount kimbie/james blake sounds)
this sound is all about the chosen chords, the patches take about 15 seconds to make. if you can't figure out what chords are playing in a song you like just use a spectrum analyzer
