I've now done two whole weeks of treatment and a couple of my fish still have white spots. What's the story here. The first week I used King British White Spot Control but that didn’t touch it so I went on to the King British W3 original formula which, to be honest, I think is the same as the previous, just stronger.

Now... I must confess, I have a couple of very small young clowns in this tank so I'm only applying half doses. I know the clowns are going to outgrow the tank soon so I’m just getting the dotted line from the missus to get my 5 footer which should be be over the next two months.

Last week I did a large water change and massive gravel vac. Water test shows Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, Nitrate 10, PH 7.6ish.
The smaller of the loaches is looking a bit frail. He's all skin and bone at the moment although he is eating and swimming around. The larger one (about 2.0 inch) is flourishing although he has a few spots on him. I think it was the introduction of the loaches that brought the white spot on in the first place.
I’ve treated the tank this morning but I suppose my question is, how long can I carry on treating. Should I put the carbons back in and give the treatment a rest for a few days to give the fish a break from it. I've had the temperature up but that didn't make any difference either.

Thought about getting some aqua salt on the way home. What do you guys think.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If meds aren't working then salt is worth a try. And it will be easier on your loaches.

And coming back to the point made above raising the temperature will speed up the lifecycle of the organism but it won't necessarily kill it, once the organism leaves the fish it multiplies and the cycle starts again and with each cycle the organism multiplies exponentially.

Cheers wobblez. I have lowered the temp again because that wasn't making any noticable difference either.

If I use salt, is it safe to carry on using the King British treatment or should I stop that. Can salt alone get rid of the white spot.

What kind of salt do I need exactly.

I've done some extensive research into whitespot, there are a lot of myths and even more opinions on the best way to treat it. There is also some opinion that ordinary sea salt is as good if not more effective than aquarium salt, as well as being a lot cheaper.

During my research I came across a link which kind of summarised all of the reading I'd done on the subject, and after exhausting the supply of books in the local library it was a refreshing read and it certainly helped me to eradicate it from my tank as well as despelling a few popular myths and while I had read many different techniques and different doses of salt, this article put the dosage levels slap bang in the middle of what I'd read.

oh..Whilst watching my fish yesterday i noticed that two of my neons had lost the lower half of there tails. at first i thought the danios had been nipping them, so i collected all of them and put them in a breeding net.
This morning when i got up i checked them and one was dead and had lost all its colour, and another has lost nearly all its colour but is still alive. could this be NTD.??? will try to get some pics.
Just got in from work and i am setting up the quarantine tank so i can move them, befor what ever it is, spreads. now i whant to drain my tank and start fresh, but am not sure if this would be to much.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

How big is the tank? Is it established? What else is in with the Neons & Danios? If you have a test kit, what are the current water parameters?

the tank is 4ft 180 ltr, well established. nearly six months. water changed, 25% every two weeks. on the third week i hoover the tank, this does about 50% water change. i test just befor every water change, using a API liqid master test kit and every week all test have been spot on, all was going so well.

PH High range 7.4. constant.
ammonia, nitrate and nitrite, all 0.ppm
This week the ammonia showed at 025 ppm just befor water change.

The tank contains,
three clown loach. 2 inch
two silver shark. 3 inch
one sailfin plec. 4 inch
five danios. 2 inch.
eleven neons.
filter is a tetra ex 1200.
will be upgrading to a 60x18x18 270ltr this year, to alow the loaches and sharks to grow.

Sounds like everything else is fine, not sure what to suggest, yes it may well be the Danios doing a bit off nipping?

I would keep an eye on things over the next few days, don't do anything rash like you mentioned, It's not time for stripping it down and starting again until you have exhausted every other option

Have you actually watched any of his tutorials? I doubt that you knew how to make any sound at all when you started off.

i have decided to put all neons in a quarantine tank, just to be safe, and then done a water change on the main tank. now i will just keep my eye on them for the next few days.
can not explain the colour loss, one is now nearly all white.

I posted a thread about my neon tetras a while ago as every morning when I checked them before going to work I noticed they has lost their colour however apparently this is normal as they fade in colour over to make them less visible by predators over night?! So if it is just in a morning then dont worry this is normal

Hi again.

Thanks for the input so far. like i have mentioned befor i had moved all neons into a quarentine tank, first reason is that i was worried about any more infection if a disease was present, and second it makes them alot easier to watch for any changes.
after only a day i noticed more white marks on the tails and fins of some fish and fish that lost parts of fins had got worse.
aswell as the colour loss in two fish. so i took the gamble and treated them with protozin. i followed the dosage and application instructions and all seemed to be going well.

untill today. I came home to find one fish that had lost its colour was practically dead on the bottom of the tank. so i took him out and did the decent thing, gave him to the cats.....not really, calm down. lets just say he/she is on the compost heap. but a few others are listing to one side and swimming in circle's.

So what should i do now, don't want to put them back in main tank, wich all seems fine by the way. is there more i can do for the poor little beggers or are they DOOMED.????????

Too hard to tell from the pics but I wonder if they also have white spot due to the stress. It is hard to see on neon bodies, especially if they are pale but it will show up on the tails.
I have no idea what might be wrong with the neons but do not think it is NTD.
Sorry to tell you this but a 270L is not going to be big enough for the silver shark.

Thanks for the input, will just have to keep them apart until i am sure what its is, and as for the sharks, i understand what you are saying but the tank will grow as they grow. i know its not ideal but money comes in slowly.

Plenty of youtube accounts that offer twice as much information, better organized, with less bullshit. The guy is too busy caring about how he looks to properly discuss any production techniques, his ones on FM synthesis were laaaaaughable
