Audacity and vsthost to make music :)

Try a few daws (best way is to steal them from the developers using something like torrents) then decide
which one suites you the best and get it.
I hear that VSTHost is great for playing live, and i really enjoy using it.its not to complicated to find my way around. :4:

I would suggest that you download a demo of the ones that you might like to try, and explore your options.
Different people have different work flow preferences, what would be great for one person might not be so great for another.

I started using fl studio, but moved on to ableton because it's work flow and methods just made more sense for my use and needs.

Reaper

Cubase

And the list goes on.....

For what it's worth, you might find the following article beneficial.

Hope that helps you.

Okay, but it's basically designed for keyboard/synth players to run their sound through different effects etc..
But you should go with whatever you feel comfortable using.
