TOP 3 UNDERRATED MOVIES (& why you think they're underrated)

Post by particle-jim » Wed Mar 07, 2012 12:48 pm

As a counterpoint to the overrated movies thread:

1) Mr Nobody (don't know anyone else that has seen it but it's really really fucking good... despite having jared leto in it)
2) The Darjeeling Limited (Just makes me really happy whenever i watch it, rarely gets mentioned though)
3) Rubber (really surreal, obscure film but made me laugh like fuck)

Sweet Smell of Success (Best noir I've ever seen)
Jackie Brown (As said below, Tarintino's finest)
Dead Man's Shoes (One of the best British films I've ever seen, if not the best).

EDIT: Can't forget The King Of Comedy ( De Niro's character in this much better and more interesting than Travis in Taxi Driver).

1) From Russia With Love (one of if not the best Bond film)
2) Jackie Brown (QT's finest work)
3) Eastern Promises (Russian gangster film with Viggo Mortensen)

Didn't think much of Eastern Promises.

Anyway, Peeping Tom gets my vote.
Edit - underrated coz Psycho came out three months later and it's now remembered as one of the best psychological thrillers. Psycho, although very clever, has never scared me whereas Peeping Tom definitely is more chilling.

Donnie Brasco
Pi
Ghost dog Way of Sumarai

(within the right circles they are well regarded, but no where near earning the widespread classic acclaim they deserve!)

Preferred the original TBH - the open chase with the Night Rider is amazing :D

This film belongs where it is. It's okay, but overall it's a pretty mediocre movie.

No, you just don't understand it's brilliance!

Oh, and LA Confidential. Never really hear it spoken about but it's wicked imo

A bit of both.
I'm fascinated with eastern philosophy so that film means a lot to me.
