I'm fascinated with eastern philosophy so that film means a lot to me.
There's not really too much philosophy involved with it, though, is there? It's a bit of a naive film, but enjoyable.

Miss Congeniality...cos I think she's gorgeous
Shame...mercilessly savage yet uplifting but it won't get the audience it should
Beneath Clouds...not enough people know the shit that aboriginal kids have to contend with & this can tell 'em

1. Werckmeister Harmonies
2. Aguirre, the Wrath of God
3. Ikiru

Kind of stating the obvious I guess but they're underrated because most people haven't heard of them. All are highly acclaimed critically so I wouldn't say they're underrated by critics though.

Always lol at this scene

And I agree with American Psycho, although the book was a lot better.

Dead Man - Maybe favourite film. Soundtrack alone makes it worth watching.
Pi - One of the better psychological thrillers ever
Ameican Movie - Fucking funniest documentary ever made
Down By Law - Just the coolest fucking film.

The Devil's Backbone is another, Del Toro's best (yes even better than Pan's L).

I agree it's a great film. I love the deadpan crime boss scenes the best, and mafioso rapping along to Public Enemy is amazing. If you have the DVD, there is an extended rap before they dubbed the backing music track into it, he nails it. Probably the best scene.

The film is like a big homage to Le Samourai, but transplanted from 60s France to 90s urban NYC. Check it out if you haven't, it made me appreciate them both even more.

Yeah, Le Samourai is a classic - very enjoyable film (even had him as my avatar for a while)
What are your thoughts on The Killer? I love it, but a big part of that is coz of the samples in Only Built for Cuban Linx

Also, I recommend City on Fire if only to see where Tarantino got his ideas from for Reservoir Dogs - it concentrates a lot more on the 'Mr Orange' character, and his relationship with 'Mr White'. Worth a watch.

It is though. I owned and ran an arcade/cinema for a few years and we also sold/rented some films. We were 99% independent/foreign/cult but had some Hollywood stuff. I put American Psycho in the comedy section, it was next to Peter Jackson's Bad Taste (also highly underrated!).

I used to love when people asked 'do you have American Psycho?' Yeah, comedy - top shelf. They got a kick out of that and seemed to agree.

Bret Easton Ellis is remaking it btw as he didn't like the original, last I heard some model was up for Patrick Bateman. One of the Kardashian husbands or something. :H:

Not grossly under-rated but I've always thought Boyz N the hood was discredited for being 'urban'. I know these types of films are churned out mercilessly these days but this film actually had a really good message underneath it and was quite revolutionary for its time.
