I think Come On was '93...and that freestle was '95. maybe not though...Difficult to say what the 'original' was when using a freestyle as context, coz I'm sure he'd probably have used that verse in a freestyle before...borrowed wrote:herbalicious wrote:
^^BIGs last verse on this is the fucking best shit ever.
The original is good too. Or is the other one the original?

My auntie had the 'Between the Sheets' tune playing in her car whenever she drove for fucks sake.
So of course, me gusta.

The older I get, the more I appreciate Biggie's flow. I think I unfairly slept on him a bit as a teenager mainly because of the hype around his death and that he was very much a rapper rather than a songwriter... nowadays, I can sit back and just enjoy the craft, an MCs flow is his instrument and Biggie was an absolute virtuoso... he didn't need to write a Brenda's Got A Baby or The Message, he just rocked the fucking Mic better than anyone else alive at the time. Looking back, actually Bad Boy was probably the perfect place for him to be, too.
I wonder if he ever thought Hip Hop would take it this far.

Whose better then?!
Best rapper ever? Maybe...if not then he's damn close!
Re: 14 Years Today....Biggie - post your favourite
its not so much best rapper ever as best rapper around during his time
Today I would point toward the current Shady camp, guys like Common, Talib, Jean Grae, andre 3000

Biggie was better than all of them. Dre comes closest. But nowhere near.Today wrote:its not so much best rapper ever as best rapper around during his time

thats why i think context is important. Biggie ran nyc crack/gangsta rap in the 90s
these days that's the same old story and usually a load of bs coming from most rappers
so guys like Common keep bringing new lyrics so i feel like in time they'll be recognized as top performers in their arena
Eminem's camp run the hardcore style atm

When I listen to this I think......"Oh shit, I think 'Kiss upstaged BIG on his own joint.."
Then BIG comes in.
Game over.
Re: 14 Years Today....Biggie - post your favourite
BIG died when he was 24. Think about the lyrics he brought in what....4 years? He was better then than any od them are now....or ever have been. Mate...shhhhhhToday wrote:thats why i think context is important. Biggie ran nyc crack/gangsta rap in the 90s
