Thoughts on WOW Filter?
I am thinking about buying this, but I would like to hear some thoughts about it first.
All the special effects and cool filter types and parameters look dandy, but what I am really interested in is how the lowpass (and similar) filters sound. I am looking for a colorful, organic sounding filter, not one that sounds like its adding a layer of white noise as you raise the cutoff. I can't seem to find any demos or youtube videos that show the quality of the lowpasses, just all the effects.
I have heard that it sounds great, but I would love some reinforcement on this or to hear some examples before I spend my money.

One i'd deffo have a look at is vengence sounds Philta XL
from what i've used of the computer music version it sounds sweet, plus the full version is very versatile.

I liked it for the Vowel Filters and the Envelope Follower.

I use WOW a lot actually. I like it. It's pretty simple, but it sounds nice and has some good features like the vowel mode and the band crush filter. Nice envelope follow function too, useful for adding movement without automation.

I think its meh really nothing super special or super sexy. I admitedly jsut started playing with it but it just doesnt seem to do what i want. I genearlly throw it on a track and then end up just not using it in my fx chain later after i A/B it lol.

Idk why WOW is getting so much hate--it can do some really great things If you're trying to put in a bit of talking to your basslines :]
The Band Reject and Bandpass are both dope, has a nice built in distortion knob, lfos and envelop followers.
It's not for every sound obviously, but its definitely one of my go to filters.

I've used wow before but I didn't really feel ecstatic about it. It was nice but not something I would go and pay money for. Maybe I'm just not a "filter connoisseur". My go-to filters are the renoise filters(really liked the graph, helped me to understand the different shapes and slopes right off the bat!) and this if I want formants: http://www.kvraudio.com/product/formant ... oli_larkin

I use it quite a lot actually, especially the lowpass. It sounds great with some resonance and the overdrive turned up just slightly.
The comb on it sounds pretty good as well imo!

Yeah actually that's probably why it gets hate as that's its speciality.Sean Vonzie wrote:Idk why WOW is getting so much hate--it can do some really great things If you're trying to put in a bit of talking to your basslines :]
.
Yes btw there is a demo.
I didn't like it as a filter. Not horrible but not flexible enough imo. For a knob-driven filter I prefer Sonalksis TBK./Creative Filter. Pricier, but comes with 2 other great plugins: a compressor and extreme distortion unit.
For about the same price as WOW I'd recommend Fabfilter Volcano instead. Much better and incredibly flexible. They have some of the best and smoothest software filters available.
Re: Thoughts on WOW Filter?
i have wow filter and i like it. i like it mostly for its pretty organic sounds. the filter just sounds good to me, even with a very high resonance, it still sounds good. also the drive distortion sounds good. and as others have mentioned the env follower and vowel mode is nice. its not a complex filter and its not meant to be. it really is nice for adding some color and movement.

Re: Thoughts on WOW Filter?
If you're not going to use the LFOs, envelopes, etc. then take a look at Fabfilter Simplon or Micro (Micro has an envelope follower as well). They're a lot cheaper, as well (you could actually get both for the same price as WOW).
If you don't mind spending $50 more, Fabfilter Volcano 2 is the best filter on the market IMO.
For free, I still use the free version of Tone2 Biflter as well. I actually use a ton of free filters, it really just depends on the individual sound for me...all a case-by-case basis.
