^^ Cheers kay - was waiting for that writeup! When the clocks go forward my reading seems to triple and that was on my list of maybes for when I stock up!

Read this back in 2009, going back to it now - completely different book entirely. Rich and profound. An essential companion to life in today's world I think. Careful and repeated readings required though!

Interesting but short and has a sort of introductory feel to it. Food for thought really, and in some ways its brevity is an advantage. Contains contemporary re-hashes of important notions Dreyfus proposed in more substantial books decades ago - worth reading on that account alone.

Contemplating reading Prometheus Rising, but part of me is afraid I'm going to have to put up with a fair dose of nonsense. Thoughts?

Just finished reading City at the End of Time by Greg Bear. Was a bit difficult to get into at first but it eventually got going. Plot development was quite slow but sped up at an almost silly rate, and then petered out again at the end. Has some interesting ideas on multiverses and how people can affect it or jump through 'verses. Interesting blend of fantasy elements and ultra far futurism. I thought the ending was a bit of a letdown though.

Reading Olaf Stapledon's collection of short stories from 1949, Worlds of Wonder, now. It was reprinted recently by Wildside Press. Going through the first story now and it's quite good so far!

Lack of sunshine in the garden has meant this took far longer than expected, but I've just finished:

Excellent read if you're looking to get a feel for the roots of this culture... it's left me wanting to put a rig together though.

a book about a group of people who set off to find a mountain bigger than any mountain in the world. the reason nobody has found the mountain is because light curves around it. you have to be at a certain place at a certain time to access it. otherwise, it doesnt exist. really mental book, really short but amazing
