I actually went for the new KRK headphones (the most expensive ones) because I saw them in a store and preferred the shape to the MDRs and they're a really nice pair of headphones, comfortable and sound pretty decent.

Which are the nice ones, the KRKs or the MDRs? Lol.

Basically, were the MDRs pretty flat?

Who is to say what flat is? You can only compare them to what you've had extensive work with before and if you can get a better feel for whats playing.

Flat doesn't matter - knowing if a sound isn't sitting right is what matters; did the MDRs give me a better judge on frequencies than my 15$ panasonic headphones I had since I was 14? Well, of course haha!

Just sold my rokit 8 g2's and getting some hs80ms shortly, listen for yourself is the best way, and if it's opinions theres already a shed load online, here's a gearslutz thread with opinions on the two http://www.gearslutz.com/board/low-end- ... hs80m.html

Going to get different answers depending where you ask too, take everything with a pinch of salt and have a listen yourself to both yourself.

OK OK PEOPLE CALM DOWN hehehhahehahehaheh........What I meant by $1000, is, I have that much saved, dont really wanna blow ALL of it on monitors, so was kinda asking, should I go with yamaha's ($350x2=$700) or the KrK8's (prolly around $450-500 round here), just kinda iffy with the krk's cuz my girlfriend, she has the KRK8's and every now and then they make this sound, like, cRAAAk,(flick a piece of unfinished wood as hard as you can, THAT kinda sound) dunno why, no one does...soo makes me really question there build, plus i just think the 8's, their size, you need them quite a bit away to actually enjoy them...but I wanna go with a 8" because of its freq range...versus a 5 or 6" cone....

the crack is product of a flat response, it exposes ear piercing medium-his and highs. Those frequencies along with subs are the most problematic frequencies.

Don't pay 700 for those, they are new for around 450 or a bit less if you look enough.

You do need a fairly large room for 8" drivers so they can breathe. The frequency response is average. There are 6" monitors that are rated for lower frequencies (Event comes to mind), but don't pay too much attention to numbered specs, it's just advertising. Like how a mobile phone is rated for 10 hours talk time, but you have to charge that shit every day. Even high end monitors aren't rated for much lower frequencies than that.

Indeed; i'd much rather have super clean 70ish-hz and above and then get a sub than have my monitors single handed go down to 45 or so; you just won't get enough clarity out of a single unit.

Thats why club systems don't just have huge loud speakers, you need subs for low end clarity.

I have HS80Ms, they never let me down. Flat, good bass. Just make sure your monitoring environment is setup right.
