Family Guy or The Simpsons?

Post by DoubleSided » Thu Mar 15, 2012 8:50 am

Applies to the more general MacFarlane/Groening debate as well...

Personally I prefer The Simpsons over Family Guy but American Dad over The Simpsons...

IMO American Dad is more consistently funny than Family Guy is at the moment.

the simpsons just need to die already, i can't believe they're just letting the show drag on to a slow and miserable death. family guy i've always hated, i think seth mcfarlane secretly hates black people.

ah fuck edit edit edit

i've seen the first episode with only thinking that the bear neighbor was funny. kind of like the koala in american dad, he's funny as hell. but nah, can't you see wub.. it's segregation maaaann. then once cleveland show gets canceled (which it will), he's officially sacked the dirty minority on family guy without anyone noticing. smooth moves seth. i see you man, i see you.

Yeah agree, I never liked The Simpsons that I can recall, even when I was little. I saw a couple new Simpsons because I have a friend who is obsessed with it and I noticed it's similar to the Family Guy format now, or at least those were. Family Guy has its moments, but mostly it misses. The last one I saw that I really liked was 'The Three Kings', the one where they make fun of Stephen King novels/movies. The Stand By Me part was great, but was pretty overly racist yeah.

I don't know if he secretly hates black people, but there's something about Seth McFarlane that kind of puts me off... idk. He exerts some vibe when I've seen him on things like hosting the comedy Roasts, and I don't find him funny as himself.

I like Family Guy, but this isn't even a contest... The Simpsons is one of the best shows ever created. Maybe even the best.

A lot of shows are better than Family Guy, tbh.

Nah, the guy is one of the most liberal guys in the business, he like Ricky Gervais and Larry David has that 'let's bring up the elephant in the room and ironically mock it' humour, if you pay close attention to Family Guy and American Dad, it leaves no taboo out of bounds for it's funny's.

yeah, let's bring the elephant in the room and ironically mock the same subject, the same way on three different programs.

America does seem kinda race-obsessed tbh, I wonder if McFarlane grates a bit because us Europeans feel like the elephant in our room was already addressed... in the 70s and 80s... there comes a point where the racism-elephant is only still shitting on your carpet because you're feeding it technicolour laxatives.

Mate, they're not even in the same league.

Family Guy is for people who either:

A) Have no sense of humor but think that vomit, feces and erections are hilarious
B) Simply remember things (The 80s, pop culture, pointless nostalgia represented in less of a joke and more in a "do you remember this lol?").

Let me pose a question: What do you guys actually find funny about Family Guy that isn't one of the above?
