if i had to choose between family guy or american dad though, i'd go with american dad. roger is hilarious, and the seasons seem to be getting funnier as they progress..along with francine.

shit like this

Simpsons stopped being funny once i was older than ten. Family guy surpasses it on every level.

Tough one as both tickle a part of my very mixed sense of humour. Got to be The Simpsons though, as not only has it created some of the best cartoon quotes ever, it brings back a massive sense of nostalgia every time I hear that theme tune.

Family guy has transformed miraculously from ingenious and amusing, to incredibly tired and painful through some horrendous repetition. The format of the show has 2/3 seasons in it max, but theyre getting their moneys worth out of it...

The simpsons I havent watched in years, cos firstly I think its meant for much younger people than me, and Ive heard its gone to the dogs. Was gold back in the day though.

But anyway, the comedy hierarchy goes...

i wish i could say the same as SP was one of my favorite shows but.. i think the writings a bit slack now. good from season 1-3 then the ''golden era'' from seasons 4-11..12 to current..ehh you know it's funny but.. i think it's kinda obvious trey just wants to focus on the broadway thing.

See ive felt disappointed with quite a few episodes in recent series, then when ive finally gotten round to watching them again have thought they were amazing. I mean, the city sushi episode from whenever it was recently I for some reason just didnt think it was great at the time, but after watching it again id put it as one of the best episodes ever! And theres still always some golden ones. Imaginationland for example. See where youre coming from though, it felt like there was a bit of a formula brewing at some point recently. Current event + side plot that eventually work their way together. My favourites are always the episodes they could have done at any time, generally involving the kids being kids. Good times with weapons or the nascar one...and of course loads of old ones.

Maybe the order should be Trey Parker > Everyone else > Top Gear :P

I still give cannibal the musical a watch every few months...perfect example of my kind of humour lol

Family guy isn't that funny because it is just pointless humour. There's no skill behind the jokes, they're just standalone gags that would fit in anywhere - which was fresh when it started but now is just old.

American Dad is more character-based and there's more narrative behind it. The characters are stronger and are more developed. It's kind of a modern version of the Simpsons, I think.

Depends really. The (old) Simpsons is clearly actually funnier and more intelligent, but sometimes you want stupid stoner comedy. Archer, Futurama and old South Park have way more to them. The new Simpsons has to be right near the bottom along with any Steve/Chris episodes of American Dad/Family Guy.

South Park got a bit shit after the series with imagination land but is now starting to make me laugh quite a bit more.
Futurama is the best, hands down. Deserves 12 more series.
Simpsons used to be the best TV show on earth. Used to be.
American Dad... I have not watched enough to make judgement.
Family Guy is jack of all trades. Some episodes have me absolutely rolling in fits of laughter. Some just don't, at all.

IMO ofcourse.

One of the greatest moments in modern animated comedy:

i do enjoy family guy but its clear that the show is made for the internet its a bunch of gags with a simple story

The simpsons at its best is the greatest show ever but nowadays its poor very poor

American Dad is the closest to the best of the the simpsons i have seen in a cartoon and show .

Futurama is great

American Dad is my favourite right now. Used to be a massive Simpsons fan though.

It was The Simpsons then when all the best writers left to go to Futurama unsurprisingly the humour completely changed and Futurama inherited the sort of humour present in original Simpsons. These days Family Guy is better than The Simpsons but that's not saying much. American Dad is ok and Futurama is great though I've not seen any of Season 6 but I'm assuming it's still the same standard. In honesty it's all about Archer these days though Frisky Dingo and Sealab 2021 were hilarious when they were on.

Archer is so different. It's weird, like you wouldn't expect it to work in a cartoon but it does.

I guess so but the humour is the same as Sealab 2021 and Frisky Dingo as they were created by the same guy so I guess it didn't surprise me too much when Archer worked. Xander Crews from Frisky Dingo is like a prototype Archer character.

Simpsons was genius (just look at some clips in the best episode thread)

It's fallen off hard though and is now just terrible

Futurama is just really good.

Family Guy had it's moments early on but has just become poor references and awful anti-humour now

I mean almost two fucking minutes of this?

Hated American Dad at first. Don't mind it too much now, though it's still not exactly great. It's at least more watchable than current family guy,
