when will you play through your speakers?

Post by dickman69 » Thu Mar 15, 2012 4:22 pm

the walls in my apartment are paper thin so i cant just blare music whenever i want (esp bass music) or my neighbors get rather annoyed

i usually wait till noon to start and will play till 11:00 on weekdays
friday/saturday ill play till 2:00am, then on w/ headphones

i wonder does anyone else has similar guidelines?

no, i rent a small 2br cottage by myself and use my speakers whenever i want
I've had complaints from neighbors once over the speakers being on past 1am on a weeknight, which is understood
but the only other complaints i got were over my playing guitar and it was like during the middle of the afternoon
so i figured they can fuck off, there's no noise ordinance til 11pm and i'm not gonna stop playing my guitar because some bitch lady doesn't like it

Whenever I want.

Usually the only time I get any issue is when we've got the main room rig playing during the early hours of Sunday morning. Then we'll either get the upstairs flat stamping on the ceiling, so we turn it down, or else if we've got people out on the smoking balcony and the people across the road kick off.

I have paper thin walls too (I can hear neighbours opening their door to the room which is my studio room in their house..). have people both sides of me and they both have young-ish children (ones like 8 one side, others like 12 and 16 the other) so I respect routines, kids needing to sleep for school and that.

I am on headphones 70% of the time; I respectfully told them I make music and said I need to play music fairly loud at least once or twice a week for a few hours a time; which day is good for them.

Turns out on a Thursday afternoon no ones in their houses and Saturday they don't care about the noise.

I have had 0 complaints and have a healthy friendship with them - its all about respect for those around you if you're living in a closed in environment like a council estate like me.

I just follow noise ordinance laws. Anytime after 6am - 10pm i get free reign to make noise. Even when i was in an apartment i would be the kid shaking all the walls but right at 10pm it goes dead quiet, i dont want to deal with po-po's in my studio space. Otherwise i am just following the law :p and the neighbors get to deal with it...

i think my neighbors are aware i make music because one of them said something about "making beats" if i recall, and i guess i expect them to understand that seeing as how they probably hear the same bassline for 2 or 3 hours at a time through their walls

@ My current apt, the acoustics are so terrible & reflections so high, I only use my Monitors to rest my ears / get a different perspective. So 25% of the time.

@ My parents house (basement), a different story. I blasted full volume all hours of the night like it was club. Angry Neighbors calling at 2am was standard. 90% of the time.

I'm in a college dorm. Generally wait till about 11am to start blasting, at stop at around 9pm on weeknights, and 11 on weekends. the RA told me the last time she knocked on the door that it was "unacceptable." i sheepishly said okay, but the next time she knocks on my door i'm going to tell her to just come over whenever it's bothering her and i'll turn it down. it's not like she's in the building every hour of the day.

the house on my right is empty apart from every now and again a mysterious silver haired old man is spotted in his kitchen, the house on the left contains some g's who seem to shout down the phone a few times a week and then spend the rest of their week somewhere else.. so i blaze the volume at a ridiculous level.

so lucky, my parents were one of the reasons I stopped producing back when I lived with them. I remember having a big fight because I had to mix/master my tracks to play live next day and they were at home.

I live in a rural area, so neighbors aren't an issue and I'm not an issue for them. I do keep quiet and use headphones or turn down my speakers for my family's sake at night. I do like to sit my butt down in different chairs around the house with my laptop, so I use headphones then as well. I'd say it's about 50/50 for headphones/monitors.

My neighbors kid runs around their backyard yipping like a dog every morning, so fuck them.
