Bass cause clipping...

Post by skylerrivera17 » Fri Mar 16, 2012 9:23 pm

Hey guys,

First Post here. I'm a complete beginner with dubstep and producing in general but am getting the hang of everything through extensive reading of the Production Bible. Over the past weeks, I've been experimenting with massive, 3xOSC, and various other synthesizers with decent results (in my opinion :?). Anyway... Long story short, even though the basss sound alright, they seem to consistently generate clipping. Sometimes I'll play with a bass for a good 2 hours with no clipping and then it just randomly builds up to the point where I just get annoyed and quit. And its not like i'll be messing with the sound, it'll happen when I'm messing with a performer (in massive). It also happens when I try to use any more than 1 unisono in the voicing tab. It also happens with sub bass too. Just playing a sub bass by itself at 15-18dbs will cause clipping. I've tried eqing out conflicting frequencies, lowering the volume, everything and anything I can find and it won't help. That leads to me to wonder if it's my soundcard or headphones. My soundcard is stock on my windows laptop and it's software is made by Realtek and the headphones are turtle beachs I usually use for gaming .

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Add a limiter to the master and use compression on your bass sounds so that the signals dont peak..
