What are good sample packs with sweeps?

Post by Akadia » Sat Mar 17, 2012 5:05 pm

I have a few sample packs but none of them seem to have any decent sweeps or risers. In addition to that, the pads in the ones I have are dark and don't fit when I make more upbeat dubstep. Does anyone know of a sample pack with some good sweeps (up-lifter and down-lifter) and pads and stuff like that. Also they should be less dark and more ambient.

Was a bit harsh, but you're never gonna develop your own sound as a producer if you don't learn to make your own sounds

man who wants their own sound??!

that argument is ridiculous its a one stop route to becoming "pigeon- holed" faster then i can count to ten,

what u want is to be able to impose ur ideas on a song whilst still creating enough variety to please a wide reaching audience...

So it's better to sound like everyone else than make unique music? Get the entire fuck out of here...

u ignorant fool. its all been done before, do u really think ur going to make something "unique" by pursing some self-defeating quest of ur own sound?? nobody gives a shit about ur talent, or what ur about- let alone what u sound like, this industry rewards hard graft and thats about it.

how did u come about that? cause i gave someone a reality check...look my original point was the following...

in order to understand what music production is all about, u have to contextualise ur productions so that other listeners will be able to understand and appreciate it too. its a 2 way relationship between the audience and the producer, there is no point sitting in an ivory tower making god knows what, all by urself, no one will care, rather build the framework for ur productions and then once u have some "fans" then go outside the box.

i admit i was a tad blunt, before haha, and no i dont think im some superstar producer.

but...
this whole pursuit of a ur own sound, can be as damaging to a producers ambitions as well red wine on a white carpet. seriously people get bogged down with this ambitious myth, that if they create their own "sound" then they will somehow have achieved something? and this is exactly what my second point was referring to, its the end product that counts, the song in its entirety not the methodology!! and this can be acheived through various diefferne tmethods, like pulling influences from outside ur sound for example;

the simple matter of the fact is that they are a tonne of resources available at a producers finger tips these days, so in final, music production is hard work, but this pursuit of ur own sound means nothing to no one ultimately.

They are pretty easy to make. Better to spend 10 minutes making one then just getting a sample - if i listen to music and i know where a particular sound came from i dont really enjoy it. Cheapens it from me when i hear someone rinse a Vengance sample pack through their track, for example.

And it's this way of thinking that causes stagnation in the sound.

Why make something if it's just a small variation of another man's hard work? That's the real question.

If all you want to do is rip off other's sounds why even bother creating art?

Oh yes I forgot, that's because you're not an artist even though you are using an artists' medium. You are merely a fast food cook.
"Oh there's a little more ketchup on that one, oh, oh, and I added two extra pickles on that one but forgot the onions on the other."
You're not making art or music, you're making a fu**ing Big Mac.

Save your marketing and careerism bs for your future promotion as Head Fry Cook at your local chain.
Go make a song because it's what you need to do more than anything else or because it could save someone else's life.

ok since there's only been one suggestion so far here's one and only one of my many of my starting points when it comes to builds and FX: noise osc + sine osc. pitchbend the sine, play with distortion and reverb maybe delay on it. on the noise high pass it above 300 hz, make it autopan around a little, add reverb, some phasing maybe. feed those into the same mixer track, glue with compression, put a filter on it, automate it to sweep in the direction you want. Maybe you'll want an EQ notch to sweep through up and down at double the time your filter opens up. bounce the sound to .wav with reverb tail. fuck around with it some more. chop it up maybe. hope that helps.
Here's what I sound like
