Sidechain Compression in Fruity Loops
I'm nearing completion on a Drumstep track, but one of the major things that is keeping me from being able to send it in for mastering is using sidechain compression from the kick drum to the sub bass. Unfortunately, I haven't found a decent tutorial on youtube that explained how to set this up. Would someone mind explaining that is an FL user? Thanks!
Re: Sidechain Compression in Fruity Loops
Select the kick on the mixer and right click the arrow button above 'fx' on the sub track -> sidechain to this track. Put a fruity limiter on the sub and go to 'Comp' and right click where it says sidechain and select the kick track. Turn up the ratio and release all the way and adjust the threshold knob to your liking.
That's the way I do it anyway

You can also use a peak controller and a mute on the respsective channels.
Have you tried EQing/tuning the kick instead?

Re: Sidechain Compression in Fruity Loops
Yea, peak controller on kick(s). Fruity compressor on sub. Link threshold to the peak controller and make sure its set to inverted. Nudge the ratio to your liking. Play around with the decay knob in the peak controller UI till you get it to your liking. You may need to adjust the volume and tension in the peak controller too.
Alternatively, you can link the peak controller to the plugin volume knob of fruity mute or something similar, this is good to avoid clicks in your compressor.

I have a thread here discussing the track, and offering you the chance to remix it, more details in thread! See what you can come up with!

I linked it to the 1 band in a parametric eq in the tune in my sig, works as wellComfi wrote:Yea, peak controller on kick(s). Fruity compressor on sub. Re: Sidechain Compression in Fruity Loops
What would be a better method, kick EQ or Sidechain Compression?
Re: Sidechain Compression in Fruity Loops
Because I don't want the kick sounding wimpy in the intro, but at the same time I don't want it interfering with the sub bass.

There is always automation...
I'd sidechain though, I like massive kicks.
