Just finished boiler room - pleasantly suprised! Thought with vin diesel in it, it might have the potential to be a cringe macho exagurration fest but thought it was great and funny at times (particularly as I work in sales, and everyone in sales has one or two stnuc like the guys in this film in their office)! Great soundtrack too!

Gave me a half chub.
Sumptuous visuals AND a good story line. It's like a live anime film.

Special Yin Yang score - 9.5/10

Literally just finished watching Hoop Dreams. I have a passing interest in Basketball at absolute best, but the film completely transcends that to deal with racial, economic and social issues too. I thought it was amazing. It's always difficult to say too much about a film so soon after watching it, before you can let it properly sink in, but right now I honestly think it may well be one of the best sports films and one of the best documentaries I've ever seen. If my endorsement isn't enough (it should be), Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert both named Hoop Dreams as their best film of 1994, Shawshank Redemption, Pulp Fiction and Forest Gump were released in 1994.

Also, second the call on Capturing the Friedmans, great doc.

EDIT: Just watched the Hoop Dreams trailer, the film is nowhere near as cheesy as the trailer makes out.

Really? Fucking love that film, even recommended it to someone on here last week. Cooper is a beast of an actor, way underrated.

i watched it on your recommendation on here!!

its a good story, maybe i was overly harsh, just thought it was run of the mill, you're right about Cooper, though he's now become so typecast into government conspiracy roles i kinda felt like i could be watching him in anything else

it'd probably be better to have read the book... im assuming there was a book

The true story is a good starting point - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Hanssen

Though there are a couple of FBI books that have chapters on him I think.

Night on Earth - Jim Jarmusch - 1991

Really cool, funny and enjoyable. Stylish, well paced and fun.

If you like his other comedies (Down by Law/Coffee & Cigarettes), sure you'll like this too. 5 vignettes from 5 different countries, based around cab drivers & their journeys.

Not recently, like years ago, I was addicted to this film. Was my favourite film for some time.

Fucking epic.
