Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
hehe thanks nixxu. The reverb is long because of the amount of space in the track, so that's intentional. Usually my snare verbs match with the rest of the drums, at around a second or so, but this time it just didn't fit. I'm also more a fan of snares than claps, this one is a layer of about 3 or 4 different samples melded together, but I wanted the clap a bit louder than the rest as it seemed to suit it better. Thanks again

No probs man! Yeah well it is all a matter of making decisions during the production! Would be awesome if you could take a listen to my latest stuff and give some feedback, it is further up the page, posted it yesterdaysubfect wrote:hehe thanks nixxu. Haha i get you, my fault for not reading the rules! Ok thanks!

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
@Subfect Nice tune i really like this, sounds quite proffesional and not much i can say on this.
@Jclarkieiv Pretty cool sounds on this track dynamic changes are quite dramatic though. Maybe mix through some better headphones or something?
@Mthrfnk Nice feel to this quite glitchy and the strings and panning work quite nicely on this. Nice to hear something different.

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
1stfiest- oh Diana you so random... great use of samples that sub is weighty too
I would like to hear more use of the horns to tie the rest into the intro better.
subfect- monster tune man love it. I've always had trouble getting into the deeper tracks because I felt like they just became repetitive but this just keeps rolling.
Last two pages are kind of out of date and it looks like most everyone has gotten feedback soo.
Here is mine, the hats seem really...awkward I might need to just completely rework them any suggestions appreciated.

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
@Creepfinger : Classic intro is nice, but it deserves a bit more ambiance, more buildup. I guess you have a great knowledge on music theory, the overall track is very melodic. But there's something that doesn't fit to me. It's missing a lot of events, one shots etc... Mixdown is not perfect but decent. I think it deserves more work, the idea is nice.
@Subfect : That's my cup of tea. Nice tune, but still missing a few things like some SFX, and it deserves more ambiance to make it sick. Add more percs too, and some variations and breaks to keep your listener interest. Good job mate.
@jclarkeiv : It's messy, I can't hear the melody on this. Mixdown is probably the key.
@filtersnake : Your intro is nice, build up is nice and sounds like some clubby tune is coming but... These formant synth broke my ears, I was expecting something with a melody. Honestly your intro is good, now work your synth and your mixdown !
My turn now
Made this today pretty quickly, just a wip that i will probably never finish Soundcloud

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
Thanks guys, really appreciate the feedback! It's pretty close to completed.
@Darj - what do you mean in terms of ambience - you mean like pad variations or something? Definitely needs some percussion changes, for sure. I've got a tambourine sitting there that's still yet to be used, trying to figure out where to put it and how. I think it could also do with more breaks in the percussion, to emphasize the space even more. On your tune - sounding pretty good man, though I'm unsure of the tone of the lead stab synth, and the note usage. Feels very cold, and seems out of key from the sub? Could be wrong though - could just be the tone that's doing that. Really nice structure, and good use of risers.etc. Rimshot/snare seems a bit loud, especially compared with the kick.
@creepfinger - thanks man. Interesting you didn't find it repetitive, even I find it so. haha. On your track - the intro is too long. It gets dull quite quickly as it lacks anything to keep it interesting. Even though there's lot of brassy-like stuff and it does change, it doesn't feel like it goes anywhere. Hats are definitely awkward - try matching it up with the main lead and work off that bit and I think you'll find it works better. You might want to look at different samples also.
@nixxu - I feel like the reverb on that intro synth is a tad too long, good melody choice though and quite catchy. I'd also drop the volume on that lead a little (only 1-2dbs or so). I don't feel as though the snare fits at all. Great vocal sample choice - fits really well, works nicely. You need to do some EQ on the bass so that the other elements fit a little better - especially the higher-pitched lead that overarchs it all. Sounding good though man. Wouldn't mind remixing this once you're done

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
@creepyfinger: sounds a little muddy. not enough low end, if you haven't try highpassing your midrange at 100-150hz and add in sub.
@1stfiest: that high end bass is really cool, groovy shit
i think the kick could use a bit more low end, but the sub, the high bass, midrange, snare, hats seem to be sitting well together.
@ subfect: nice atmosphere, i think the hats and percs could be lowered a db or two. but the tune its self is clear and heavy.
here's mine: mainly just worked on midrange, sub, and drums. will add synths later. threw in some samples i had laying around.
any feedback is welcome

@1stfiest - very interesting and different. I'd really like to hear more variation in the bass wobble. Bring the guitar up a bit as well.
@darj - fucking killer bass drum! Great ambiance and a nicely balanced track. Maybe bring the snare down slightly.
@Versuz - I'd really like to see some variation in the drums after the drop. It could be really cool but I feel it should get more frantic.
Sorry my responses are so short. I'm typing on my iPad which makes it difficult. Here's my wip. Feedback would be great.

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
Darj- I like the atmosphere here, very nice. I feel like the bass could use more weight, and the melody seems a little off key but I'm not sure what you're going for, it's making more sense as the track progresses and I like the percussion a lot.
All in all the melody is kindof off putting, and I actually think the track would flow a lot better if you took out the melody and let the bass and the atmosphere balance each other out.
Creepfinger- This is sounding pretty well orchestrated, it's pretty cool, after the drop I feel like your bass sounds are too quiet but it goes pretty hard, just needs some tweaking, definitely a new approach, I dig it.
1stfiest- I lol'd. This is pretty sick actually though, I think you should make it a more serious tune because it's a banger for sure. Dat sub, I feel like this needs a darker approach and more serious samples, but even as it is it's sick.
Here's a WIP I've got thrown together from various samples I procured here over time, It's absolutely not dubstep, it's vibey hiphopish stuff, and it's a real departure from my other tunes in that it's bare and the focus is on vibe more than production, there are a couple issues I'm already aware of, but I'm looking for general feedback, it's not a complex anything, so just take it for what it is.

Hey bruh, why don't you read the rules and shit? You have to comment on three tracks before posting, nobody is going to review yours if you don't contribute.CircusRecords wrote:Soundcloud

Thanks Subfect for the feedback, will take that into consideration during the work! It is actually a collab between me and one of my best friends, so we're making good progress learning stuff together! Would be an honor if you'd remix it, will keep you posted mate!
@kes-es cool track, sounds analog and old actually, i like the melodic structure and the arrangement is nice too, not to keen on the triple (?) hits of the kick, to me it sounds like it clips, causing distorion, clean otherwise GJ!
@darj high quality dude! clean mix, not to keen on the melody though, but that's just an opinion haha. Love the intro and the drop, i don't really have anything to complain about other than that i feel the "space" of the track seems off, i would like it to be bigger, and perhaps wider, it sounds too narrow, stereospread maybe? But all in all, top quality!
@creepfinger amazing work with the piano and the orchestral stuff! I also like the implementation of the strings in the drop, interesting bass sounds. Overall feel of the track is a bit clinical imo but mixwise i really don't have anything to complain about!
You guys are blowing my mind, i've been on lots of forums where there only where guys not knowing what they were talking about kept trying to give feedback to other guys new to producing not really helping them, which made the quality of the productions almost spiralling downwards, but i've got some confidence in you giving some really valuable feedback, which is needed to progress, so thanks for looking my stuff up! I'll try to come on as often as possible and contribute to the community!

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
Unfortunately my headphones i use to mix and master on are broken so i can only give feedback on the general idea of peoples songs as opposed to mixing and mastering tips...
@Kes-Es Nice jazzy influence, high end bits remind me of some of Burial's work which i like very much, background noise is interesting and nice hip hop feel to the kick drum and snare. Actualy got this stuck in my head now, nice hook.
@DARJ Nice tune man, quite sweet and dark at the same time. Voice samples are nice in this, and has kind of a "drifting" underwater to it. I think i hear some orchestral sounds in this too. Nice feel to it, probably worth finishing this. Personally I'd change the delay on that snare a bit, its just a bit too loud when it echos, maybe put a filter on it so it sounds a bit lower, or replace the delay with a huge reverb would sound quite nice.
@Creepfinger
lol @ calling me random, your intro is much crazier than anything i have sampled. not saying it's bad, just drags on a little bit too long. yeah them hi hats are way too messy. sounds like you have delays on them or something? I like the melodic synths and the breakdown at 1:50ish, some of the mid range basslines sound a little bit amateur but some of them work nicely. I'd also space out your Kick drum a little bit more, sounds like a triplet pattern or something. Nice feel to this overall though and nice to hear something different.

Feedback for others:
@1stfiest Vocals put a smile on my face, pretty cool track. Not sure what else to say, perhaps you need to vary the second half of the track more? Mixing sounds okay, although maybe you could add in some more hats and pan them around.
@Kes-Es Nice work man, are the piano loops from George Duke? Sounds really nice, and chilled too. Again not too sure what to say, mixing sounds okay aside from your kick and sub - somethings clipping and needs mixing down or limiting better.
@AdrianAdisson Drums - need work and you need to change your kick, sounds like a 90s hardcore track. Work on your composition, the basses, vocals and chords don't sit right together. You need to work on mixing too, the basses totally cover the drums. Good ideas, just needs more work.
@Darj Nice work as always, although I agree with subfect that something sounds slightly off - not sure whether its the key or what. Yo ushould definitely finish this up.
Okay here's a an update on a track I made as an introduction to a little EP I'm attempting to make, it's not dubstep - pretty chilled stuff at @110bpm.
Soundcloud
Track was mixed on headphones, and very roughly mastered, some things probably sound shitty on other peoples systems.
Any comments, feedback and plays/comments on SoundCloud is really appreciated
Thanks.
