It aint that bad though, it's fine to mix on just looks a bit shit. I'm using passive speakers atm so having the amp under the turntables is fine. But soon i'm going to get some actives so wont be needing the amp, when this happens I think I'm going to take all the legs off and just nail the coffee table top to the unit but put some feet under the whole thing to raise it up.

that's not so bad then. i'm surprised you'd want to do that though. i've got actives and i find find that gap underneath really useful for putting miscellaneous crap underneath. i could easily live without it but it's still useful... could still put stuff underneath at floor level i guess - perfect shoe storage area

Yeah stands are last. I just purchased some Whitelabels off eBay today, so it's Technics next then stands!

And the space is really useful underneath the decks. For more records, especially ones I am playing a lot atm and for other 7"s, cds and other junk like PS3 controllers etc.

have to relocate the setup, got hooked up most of these parts for my birthday, might have to grab the tv stand for the top bit tho it looks useful.. how is yours holding up badger? I can only assume it's been stacked with records since day dot but i'm a bit weary about all that weight

it's still fine mate :4:

i've not bothered taking it apart when moving as it's still solid in one piece, and it's survived 3 house moves so far. got another one soon that i'm really not looking forward to - house moving time is the one time that digi sounds extremely attractive! tempted to make another one when i get there as i've still got the bottom half of the coffee table left.
the only bit that's seen better days is the laptop stand after a drunken mate (who i'm moving in with as it happens :corntard:) leant on it and the screw holes threaded themselves. in hindsight it would probably have been sensible to drill some holes and stick rawl plugs in them rather than screwing direct into the wood

good to hear. i'm a bit concerned about the top 4 shelfs and their ability to sustain the weight of the vinyl, especially since mine seem to only have one hole for the dowels whereas the instructions show pairs of holes for each support. might just stick to the bottom shelves. any issues with vinyls rolling out of the their sleeves or pushing them two far back in general? probably won't bother with the laptop stand myself and instead mount some of those lack shelves to the wall above it

can't remember what dowels mine have but it's totally fine with record weight

i've got an expedit double the size of this and that's had no problems being full of vinyl either. the only thing to watch is that you don't fill top downwards as it becomes unstable and that's when it's likely to fall apart - especially if you end up applying pressure on the sides or leaning on it or anything

if you're worried about stability then it'd be pretty easy to put some reinforcement in the corners of the shelves
grillis wrote:any issues with vinyls rolling out of the their sleeves or pushing them two far back in general?
i put a backboard on mine and would definitely recommend doing the same. in my current flat i've got my decks in the middle of the room so it's essential really, but you can cope with it if it's against a wall. i put my records with the opening facing out so they wouldn't roll out the back. i find it's easier to get records out this way but you don't get the sleeves showing which is a bit of a shame

yeh, doesn't look like these 2x8 ones would have any issue with falling sideways i was just concerned about the horizontal shelves themselves snapping at the dowels or something but i'm probably underestimating the force it require for that. duno what to do about the back yet, more than likely i'll just bang it as close to the wall as possible. the sides of the records facing out right now looks lush but it's better to go with what is practical i guess. no doubt i'm going to set em up for the visual aesthetic first tho, i'll post a pic when it's all sorted hehe-cheers mate this thread is extremely helpful :4: :Q:

Gonna make one of these next month, already got an old side unit with my decks on but going to fit one of these next to it for more space.

Big ups for this thread badger

filling up the shelves with records now, fun times.

ended up getting the expedit storage shelf (the bottom bit) for free due to the aforementioned fault in construction

Wish I lived near an IKEA. Closest one is 6 hours away :( Anyone know any other solutions for stuff like this for a sick set up?

you can probably get it delivered but may cost a bit. if not i'm sure someone else must do something similar?

i've seen these units in second hand furniture shops and they're pretty popular so you may find some if you look around those kinds of places

yeah it's a piss take, but it still pretty cheap compared to what you'd pay for something specifacally made as a dj table, and is far better suited to the job that most

take this for instance. pointless storage sections and almost 3x the cost

yeh i know what you mean, some of the dj tables take the piss.
I'm gonna go ikea soon and get some more of the shelves as mine's full and i want to move my turntables from my desk to on top of these, my desk is too low and hurts my back

My expedit is still going strong! Such a good build.

Yours looks smart grillis! :)

To be fair, I only came back to see what speaker stands badger recommended, sorting them out next week like! Are they a good height badger? Any chance you got a picture? :)

Gunna try and get some atabites or sand or something too. Then next upgrade is some XLR! :):)

theyre on page 3 - atacama nexus 10is - and they're slightly higher than the top of the desk. there's a shitty old picture in the first post but i'll take a new one when i'm moved into my new place

i still need to fill mine but from what i read a while back if you use kiln dried sand it's much the same as atabites and a fuckload cheaper (£5 a massive bag instead of two tubs at £26 quid!). just make make sure it's properly dried out before putting it in so that it doesn't corrode the metal, or keep the plastic bags that the poles come in when you get them and put the sand in that - wish i'd done that whilst i still hand them grrr

my next step is to upgrade my speakers but not sure whether to go hifi or just get better monitors and a sub -q-
