What set up do you have at home?

Post by OneSoundUK » Thu Mar 29, 2012 9:45 am

Have only been using monitor speakers for the past few years, and looking to invest in a set up for home (amp, speakers) that are geared up for dub step and reggae. Don't have a budget in mind but nothing too ludicrous. What do you have at home, anyone have any recommendations? Cheers Paul.

Some old Sony speakers from a Hifi system running out out of an Aura amp (quite cheap on Amazon.... supposed to be for a 5.1 system, kicks out up to 1000watts and doesn't sound that bad if you hook your speakers through the two main channels. Think its £65 or so..)

The speakers have good sound and react very similarly to monitors so i cant complain.

The sound isnt that bad, but i've had to tweak the equaliser for hours to get it to my sound.

I've currently got some Pioneer hifi speakers hooked up to a NAD 326BEE amp as well as some old B&W's hooked up to a cambridge audio A5.

Going to get some slighter bigger ones to replace the B&W's and need to get a nice big sub as well

errr a dvd player from a 5.1 surround sound that also works as an amp for audio, the sub from the same 5.1 system (so shit) and a pair of old speakers from a semi-decent hi-fi player.

So what I'm trying to say is

pair of cerwin vega Ve-12s and a Perreaux E1 amp and pre amp (old but goes very hard )

wanting to swap my cerwins for some monitors though, there a little too heavy for home use..don't sound as good at low volumes. Some mackies will do

search ebay for some cambridge audio amps or nad, nice warm sound. Jpw speakers are nice if you can pick them up.

have a look at what your rooms like. if its a small room you could probably get away with a good pair of bookshelf speakers if its a larger room then its usually about positioning.
