What makes this track bounce?

Post by mthrfnk » Fri Mar 30, 2012 9:47 pm

Figured I'd make a new topic for this rather than post in the "help me make that sound" topic since I'm talking about the track as a whole and not the sounds, mods feel free to merge/move :)

The track seems to have like a bounce and swing about it, bit of a nooby question but I don't really understand how this is achieved musically - is it to do with note lengths and positions or something more?

Any explanations would be great :D

Yeah I've watched them before, I love how he acts in them.

I thought it might be triplets, never really written anything in triplets - anyone have any tutorials based on writing/using triplet melodies (I have like zero formal musical knowledge).

Just turn snap off, or on 1/3, and write it in. It shouldn't be too hard to figure out.

intro, the hi hat is doing a triplet pattern with the percussion, in the drop it's still a triplet pattern (or 1/16ths, depends of your approach), but it's a classic blues hi hat pattern.
