the fidget house sound

Easy

Does anyone know how Dave Taylor, Jesse Rose, Herve etc get that sound? Cartoonish, bubbly, FAT? Thought maybe its compression technique but just cant see how that would be done...

And does anyone know any boards with production forums for house? I dont want to make house, but they've got some different tricks up their sleeves

yeh some tunes have massive sidechain compression (ie black ghosts - face - switch remix) n love the way they fuck with vocals, using em as percussion

love the frequencies in most switch tunes, totally differnet to other house... got nice subbass.. duno how he does it. also cutting up claps from breaks or single hits n layering em seperatly unquantised around where you want it to land to give loose feel... so when you put compression on ur drum bus really makes em snap..

basslines are often whompy envleoped squares or saws in trevor loveys/ speakerjunk tracks... or try soome high saws with fast falling envelope on the pitch for 'herve - see me' style stabs...

jus chatting shit giving u ideas.. u prob already know this, but i love the sound these lot are making..

word. sidechaining is used huge in house, on many different elements. vox->delay. Kick->pad etc.

so you mean several claps loosely programmed around the hit, then compressed together?

guess the drums are about being minimal and crisp, but using chunky samples heavily compressed and eq'd in the mid range to fatten them up... must just be a matter of the right samples and the right VSTs?

bump...

fidget is just about puttin ur claps earlier..

i kid, of course.. but one thing that could help is to work around grooves rather then around progressions... like.. ur loop gots to be tight at first..

and if ur drum isnt wonky enough even if u have used a sample pack we wont name and shit... give compression a try :P really... it makes it snap as our friend foamo pointed out
