Getting signed?

I'm really interested in finding a record label and showing them some of my tunes (Actually have an EP in the works here), but I have no clue how to go about seeking and/or contacting someone from a record label, and what I should have prepared for them, and how I should talk to them... or anything for that matter. Any tips? I've seen a couple people on the site who are signed :P
