Hello Paul,
How can you propose such low rates, with a "pay if you like the result" policy?

Re: Have your track mastered for only £10 can't argue with t
Never had a single person not like the results. I use £30K worth of studio gear its hard not to get great results. I get about 15 masters a day around 5 or so coming from this thread ( thanks everyone ) . 15 masters a day over a 12 hour period £150 in the bank a day I'm not greedy thats a nice wage for doing something you love. Obviously £450 a day would be lovely. I know software "mastering engineers" charging £20-£30 a day and they only master a track a day if their lucky. I do it cheaper and I don't try to con artist. People charging £30 a master are just robbing people who want to hear what their tracks sounds like mastered. A master is not running it through ozone at playing with your mouse.laurend wrote:Hello Paul,

I keep my rates low because I'm a fair guy and artist should all be able to benifit from my studio gear at a fair price.

Gears are useless until you have the know how. Good results just come easier with high end equipments. I'm always amazed by the hype surrounding most mastering business.
Just one more question: Do your prices include VAT?

Good job I know what I'm doing then. Why are you so interested in what I earn ? and yes you pay £10 then i pay my vat out of it. Good results come easier with high end gear yes. Thats why you buy high end gear they get results. So why should any mastering engineer using software any artist could download and learn how to use get to charge £30 for something they could do in their bedroom?laurend wrote:Gears are useless until you have the know how. I'm only interested by the price you offer, because we're both in the cost conscious mastering business. I wish you a great success with your hardware based model.

Thanks all the best to you as well. Only thing I would say is when you have an audio example raise your original volume of the track to match the new mastered track. Can't just rely on loud = better, plus its very hard to listen to the auctual change in dynamics and width when your original source audio is so much quieter.laurend wrote:I'm only interested by the price you offer, because we're both in the cost conscious mastering business. I'm eager to hear the A/B Immerse is going to post, any eta?
Re: Have your track mastered for only £10 can't argue with t
I totally agree on this point. But the key comparison isn't done between the original and the mastered files. It's done between the home made mastering and the preview of the out sourced mastering.PaulAshmore wrote:Only thing I would say is when you have an audio example raise your original volume of the track to match the new mastered track. Errrrrrrrrr does the price go down the more tracks we send you.So say its £10 a track if we send you an ep will it be £8.50 then an album would be mayyybbbbeeeee £4.50 a track.Isn't it the going thing with mastering to drop the price the more work we provided you with?

lol. Yeah sure I haven't officially set any prices but I have done deals with people who send me eps and albums. £4.50 though wow that would be hard. My usual deals I do for artists is if they send all the tracks over at once in a zip or rar folder I'll do 5 tracks for £40 10 tracks for £70. I will soon have full official deals listed. Also worth noteing if two people want to submit their tracks together that's not a problem just as long as they are all submitted at once.

The EP deal is quite tempting man. Will definitely consider you when I finally get around to finishing up my EP, will probably be a whilePaulAshmore wrote:There's always one who's not have with a tenner a masterlloydy wrote:Errrrrrrrrr does the price go down the more tracks we send you.So say its £10 a track if we send you an ep will it be £8.50 then an album would be mayyybbbbeeeee £4.50 a track.Isn't it the going thing with mastering to drop the price the more work we provided you with?

o correct me if I'm wrong but it sounds to me like people send you an already mastered track then you master it again?laurend wrote:I totally agree on this point. Surely you the mean home made mix? Would be pointless mastering an already mastered audio signal as it will be compressed and brickwalled at 0db.
You say the Ab compare "It's done between the home made mastering and the preview of the out sourced mastering"
This implys it's already mastered then you master it again.
What's your mastering chain out of curiosity ?
Re: Have your track mastered for only £10 can't argue with t
Nah i was only playing mate, props to what you are doing.I have 2 tracks i want to send you but i'm skint at the mo so you will be hearing from me in the coming weeks.PaulAshmore wrote:There's always one who's not have with a tenner a masterlloydy wrote:Errrrrrrrrr does the price go down the more tracks we send you.So say its £10 a track if we send you an ep will it be £8.50 then an album would be mayyybbbbeeeee £4.50 a track.Isn't it the going thing with mastering to drop the price the more work we provided you with?

Have you any particulars that you want when the tracks are sent to you like bit rate, headroom etc......
Re: Have your track mastered for only £10 can't argue with t
That isn't what I mean. People provide an unmastered track. Then they receive a preview of the mastered job.PaulAshmore wrote: o correct me if I'm wrong but it sounds to me like people send you an already mastered track then you master it again?

As you advised, the comparison must be done at the same RMS level in order to revel the improvements without been dazzled by the level boost. So the mastered track level must be turned down.
But, the most important comparison is done when people compare their home mastering with the out sourced mastering. Then no RMS adjustment has to be done.
Sorry for my English, I hope I'm clearer this time.
Re: Have your track mastered for only £10 can't argue with t
I've forgot the mastering chain question.
I don't use any plug-in. I've designed my own algorithm which unfortunately isn't real time because of an analyze period before processing according a human perception pattern. To keep it simple, the audio is optimized in order to produce the maximal sensation in the human hearing system. The source can be birds, harpsichord or dubstep, the same process will be applied.
