I expect most of you would find this blasphemous, but I love Photek's tech-house track with Robert Owens, "Mine To Give."

well what is then? listened to it 3-4 times and nothing jumped out the speakers, just sounds like dubstep diverging into dubwise-breaks, not really my cup of tea...

dubwise breaks?!! are you nuts

the things that make it wonderful to my ears are its...

beauty, depth, emotion, subtlety, imagery

incredible drums

beautiful production

i cant explain to you how to like it, as you say, maybe its just not your cup of tea

but dubwise breaks it certainly aint

Breaks is one of the few genres of dance music burial doesn't evoke at all in my opinion. You can see ghosts of almost everything, from garage through to techno and jungle, hip hop and ambient.. but breaks? Don't see it.

it's not really meant to jump out of the speakers,
you're meant to sink into them...

dubwise breaks

burial is basically garage imo, just garage approached in a different way, with an emphasis on mood, texture and emotion. Shows how much room there still is to take the 2 step formula in new directions.

And i don't think he's kode 9 :D

i agree completely. it's 2step garage done from a different angle. at once primitive and experimental. distant yet emotive and warm. militant and violent but also delicate and inviting. anybody notice a feminine quality to the music? r&b vocal snippets and sexy swing beats? sampling michael jackson on "nite train?"

burial almost sounds like el-b meets photek, meets boards of canada. he uses environmental samples like photek and b.o.c. do (or used to). knifes, bullet shells dropping, a pistol cocking, weird voices and tones, shuffles, crackles etc.

imho this is the most exciting artist in electronic music to come along in years. totally unknown and outside the "scene" yet completely vital and immediate.

oh, and burial's album is the closest thing to a soundtrack to london i think i've ever heard. i popped it on my phone and walked around town for the duration and it really was impressive how the sound complimented the sights so perfectly

frankly i don't care who it is, he/she/it/they make brilliant music

I think Burial sounds German.
I'm actually convinced it's Ulrich Schnauss.

bring back this thread again

Maybe 3D or Mushroom from the legendary Massive Attack.
Suddenly, there was a terrible roar all around us, and the sky was full with what looked like huge bats, all swooping and screeching and diving around the car, and a voice was screaming:
Holy Jesus. What are these goddamn animals?
