If you just had the more iconic figures like skream, benga, dmz etc it would be alright, but with all of these faces you must feel like a stalker.

And yeah the fact that I don't recognise a few small time dubstep producers really doesn't bother me.

this bothers quite a lot actually. i can't see how someone would not feel wrong to identify as a fan and not recognize who they are being fans of. It was easy to say that you couldn't know who they were before i suppose in the 90's 80's and such but with the internet age, today it is so easy to just look someone up and take 2 seconds to put a face to a name.Duffman wrote:And yeah the fact that I don't recognise a few small time dubstep producers really doesn't bother me.
There has been many times when i go to an event and i have to google the night before the people on the list playing because i just wouldnt know who is who unless they were announced. One time i spent the whole night thinking i was listening to Mosca only to find out the next morning it was Mayster (whom ive never heard of before but played a really good garage set), that was the whole reason i went that night, to hear Mosca, i was gutted.
That's what i was trying to say here with this post. I wanted to shine a light on the fact that we may know of each release a producer has and every dubplate they own, talk how much we rate their music yet wouldnt be able to notice them if you bumped into the street. Im not saying we should go all pop music and paparazzi them, but knowing who it is that produces the music you love helps.
btw i dont think any of these producers would quality as "small time", not even a vet like Moldy.

I recognise a producer by their sound, and I would rather be a fan of the sound than the person behind the sound.llennnn16 wrote:this bothers quite a lot actually. i can't see how someone would not feel wrong to identify as a fan and not recognize who they are being fans of. Well in the grand scheme of things they are quite small time producers, especially when you compare their status to the biggest names in the scene like Skream and Flux P. But that doesn't matter anyway, I like their tunes and their popularity will never affect this.

i've seen loefah 3 or 4 times, wouldn't miss him any time he's playing in glasgow, but i still wouldn't recognise him if i walked past him in the street. end of the day, i love the mans tunes and his sets, but who gives a fuck what he looks like, even if i did see him, i'm not gonna go up to him and start sucking on his dick like some fanboy. any dj i go to see, i'm gonna know who's playing from the tune selection, if the vibe ain't what i want, i'll go check out the other room. even if i went to see someone i really wanted to see and the tunage was much better in another room, i'd be in the other room, i don't mind missing a big name if the vibe is better elsewhere, end of the day, it's all about the tunes, not who you are.llennnn16 wrote:this bothers quite a lot actually. i can't see how someone would not feel wrong to identify as a fan and not recognize who they are being fans of.
