Re: The Reese Bass Thread
I don't know about not as "powerful". Sure, it reduces the headroom you could have for one single sine but I feel like certain intervals/harmonies add a certain "power" to a sub. Like a power chord in sines. The beating of the two frequencies has a neat feel too it.

I love reeses, straight up
so I gave this a shot, its not very melodic or anything but I pretty much just automated a ton. any thoughts?

Re: The Reese Bass Thread
It's definitley decent. I would layer it with something that has a more crunchy and distorted midrange though. On it's on it doesn't quite have that thickness, but layered with something else it could def be powerful.ehbrums1 wrote:was bored and decided to throw together a little reese, the automation don't really flow but my ear have taken a beating and wanted an outside opinion

Re: The Reese Bass Thread
Hey guys..any ideas how to recreate that effect that is applied on all basslines here?
http://www.sendspace.com/file/vm07q4
Sorry, there is bunch of small sounds so I'm unable to upload it to SC..but it takes 20 seconds to DL it..
I do know how to do reese bass..I have a bunch of awesome basslines and reese basses...
I do know how to modulate and etc..
I have a bass with 17 effects in the rack and this effect is pretty close to that one I'm trying to recreate..
But still..needs something else...

Re: The Reese Bass Thread
Hello i love the reece bass,it is probably my favourite out of all sound design also the techno dub stab which is also a quality sound.
I will post a jump up dnb track i made where i think i pretty much nailed the reece sound. If people are interested i will post up how i went about it.
Soundcloud
The second drop you can here it better because the notes are a bit longer,in all honesty it wasn't that hard to make.

Re: The Reese Bass Thread
Yeah i'm definitely interested, great track. Any tips would be welcome.
How long have you been producing for?
How long have you been producing for?
Re: The Reese Bass Thread
10 years off and on,spent 5-6 years starting and stopping because i couldn't get my head round it and then it just started to come together.Been finishing and posting tunes for the last year and now finished 20-21.VirtualMark wrote:Yeah i'm definitely interested, great track. Re: The Reese Bass Thread
I'll have a look at the track in question and write down my plugin chain. The reece patch was made in absynth, simple 2 saw detuned, both oscillators have frequency modulation modules both with a sine wave setting. Then i added a wave shaper module with a sinewave too just to beef the sound up before processing. The patch itself is pretty beefy but it is a bit harsh on the ears.Give me 10 mins and ill post the plugin chain.
Re: The Reese Bass Thread
Done in logic pro, this is the plugin chain i used on the absynth patch,no splitting, resampling or anything like that just simply made the patch then just added the plugs and played about untill i got it sounding pretty beefy.
Channel eg with a big notch taken out around 200 hz for snare to cut through.Snare and this sound clashed a bit so bit of cutting was needed.
Logics autofilter set to 4 pole low pass setting 6,cut-off mod is 100 percent and rate is set to 1/4.This is for movement. Also i have 39.9% of the dry signal coming through with that too just to thicken the sound back up.This is the plug that gives the patch most of its movement you can hear.
Camelphat with tiny amount on the bitcrusher, tube and exciter set to just under half way.everything else is basically set to default settings and the lfo section is turned off. This is just to add some warmth.
Wow filter set to vowel mode, lfo modulating between a-e about 25% between both, slight bit of overdrive and filter itself set to comb.Purely for more movement. In all honesty you can't really hear it all that well but mute it the sound becomes a tad bit thinner so it is doing something
Logics stock phaser plug, phase position set to 0,lfo mix set all the way to lfo 1 with the speed set very low 0.22hz low.Order is set to 4.Ceiling is set really high so as little effect as possible on the low and the mids.Feedback set to 50%,this has to be as subtle as possible or it all gets to muddy.Again obviously we are all aware the movement phaser plugs add, logics stock one is a very strong plug to use to thicken sounds up but it must be subtle as possible or it sounds useless.
Camelphat agin with pretty much the same settings as the one further up the chain, simply added just to beef it back up and add warmth after the phaser.
Then logics ad limiter with output ceiling set to -2db and gain 4.1,just simply to squash the sound slightly and to stop any unwanted peaks. Also makes the sound a little easier to mix, take the limiter off and watch your master fader peaking.
Hope this helps!
I am going to use this patch a lot but i want to try and evolve it every time i use it.

Re: The Reese Bass Thread
Just like to add pitchbends, use and abuse them when using reece basses.Catch the pitch bend rite and you can bring the growl out a bit more.
