Re: The SNH Football thread
More importantly, how did this Arsenal reserves team: Lukasz Fabianski, Carl Jenkinson, Johan Djourou, Sebastien Squillaci, Andre Santos, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Gervinho, Yossi Benayoun, Oguzhan Ozyakup, Marouane Chamakh, Park Chu-Young,
Only draw 1-1 with Birmingham Reserves?

Squillaci, Benayoun, Ozyakup, Chamakh & Young are your answer.garethom wrote:More importantly, how did this Arsenal reserves team: Lukasz Fabianski, Carl Jenkinson, Johan Djourou, Sebastien Squillaci, Andre Santos, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Gervinho, Yossi Benayoun, Oguzhan Ozyakup, Marouane Chamakh, Park Chu-Young,

Even so, considering most of our first squad is made up of what would usually be considered reserves, this was a seriously weak squad of 16-18 year olds (and one 15 year old I think).jazzamataz wrote:Squillaci, Benayoun, Ozyakup, Chamakh & Young are your answer.garethom wrote:More importantly, how did this Arsenal reserves team: Lukasz Fabianski, Carl Jenkinson, Johan Djourou, Sebastien Squillaci, Andre Santos, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Gervinho, Yossi Benayoun, Oguzhan Ozyakup, Marouane Chamakh, Park Chu-Young,

Hmm... will give it a watch if/when the game goes on Arsenal media player.garethom wrote:Even so, considering most of our first squad is made up of what would usually be considered reserves, this was a seriously weak squad of 16-18 year olds (and one 15 year old I think).jazzamataz wrote:Squillaci, Benayoun, Ozyakup, Chamakh & Young are your answer.garethom wrote:More importantly, how did this Arsenal reserves team: Lukasz Fabianski, Carl Jenkinson, Johan Djourou, Sebastien Squillaci, Andre Santos, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Gervinho, Yossi Benayoun, Oguzhan Ozyakup, Marouane Chamakh, Park Chu-Young,

The idea for this game was just for fitness though, it had no competitive value whatsoever.
It wouldn't make sense for players to go out and give it all - it's a kick about on a Wednesday
afternoon.
Park looks like he's totally shot of confidence anyway and Chamakh looks the same/looks like
he is on his way out (still, any money for someone who was free is a bonus.) Bendnter doesn't
want to return either, but he's struggling to understand no one else is going to pay him £52k p/w.
Personally want Vela back and Miyachi to get a run in the team too - He has looked BOSS for Bolton
in his time there. He's been more clinical/influential than Forehead too.
RE: Oxo-Chambo - He'll be amazing with time. Remember the hype that Theo got when he first
came to Arsenal - we (as fans) have to be VERY careful we don't build him up to knock him down.
For me, he looks dangerous as fuck on the wings, here's to hoping Wenger doesn't ruin him by
playing him out of position too much.

The idea there is some sort of barce champions league conspiracy is laughable. As is the idea that Wenger is not trying to win the Champions League.

(Love the use of Hayden in this video.)
YEP... I'm making that up... Once or twice, yeah, but consistently
from 2006 to 2012 (6 years) is a biiiiit suspect.
The most recent example is the complaint from Arsenal fell on deaf ears
RE: the San Siro pitch, but Milan are on red alert after Xavi complained the
pitch was not right and Milan are expecting a fine and reprimand in the
coming week.
Secondly - if you looked into the AST financial findings, Arsenal simply cannot
afford to lose champions league football. It would be cataclysmic for their
finances if that happened. The team does not have the capacity to finish first
in the Premier League atm, let alone win the Champion's League at the cost of
placing Top 4.

Re: The SNH Football thread
Barcelona will obviously be very influential due to their standing and the importance of them as a club to UEFA but there I just cannot believe there is any actual plans to actually aid them.
In terms of refereeing decision etc. i think this goes down to the Nou Camp atmosphere (if they are at home) along with the squad being very adept at influencing referees throughout the match. This is the reason I hate barce nowadays, the amount they dive and surround the ref is ridiculous. This clearly has an impact on the decisions made hence why more and more teams are now doing it to greater and greater levels. Finally Barcelona tend to spend more time in and around the box than other teams and therefore they will get more wrongful decisions going their way ( in terms of attacking penalties and freekicks) than others due to the law of averages.
Arsenal:
I agree Arsenal cannot really afford to lose Champions League football but I don't think this means that they are not trying to win it (not that they have the capacity to actually manage it). Wenger like every other manager is trying to maximise what he can get out of the squad. All the top 4 managers rest players in Champions league games as well as premier league games when they feel it is right. I guess if you are saying Wenger will not gamble the top 4 place over winning the cahmpions league then i agree but I dont think anyone would. Winning the champions league requires far more luck than doing well in the league. A single decision can have much more influence due to it being a cup competition.

Re: The SNH Football thread
Looks like Chelsea and Newcastle have hit form at exactly the wrong time, now we go into the game against city needing to win. Arsenal usually bottle it at this point in the season, lets hope we see some of this spirit Wenger keeps going on about..

Spurs losing to Norwich at home

Would love it if Newcastle join us in the champs league next year.wub wrote:Spurs losing to Norwich at home
Excellent results this weekend, and Reading looking good for promotion as well.

Re: The SNH Football thread
all the fair weather, Wenger doubting Arsenal fans from earlier in the season should be fucking embarrassed considering where we are now.
Great weekend of football

Re: The SNH Football thread
Agreed.
Now just gotta hope Brighton take points off Reading this evening.

Re: The SNH Football thread
I'd rather see Saints go up as Champions rather than second place...who finishes in the other automatic spot is of no concern to me.southstar wrote:Surely you'd rather see Reading get promoted than West Ham?
Also it'll kill some of Reading's momentum against us on Friday if they don't take away 3pts tonight.
Re: The SNH Football thread
I still think this arsenal team is a long way from being capable of winning trophies but i would have settled for 4th at the start of the season. Wenger's performed miracles with a very average squadmurky21 wrote:all the fair weather, Wenger doubting Arsenal fans from earlier in the season should be fucking embarrassed considering where we are now.
