Hardware needed for this?

I was just wondering, how you can get your track to sound as full as this one.

Do you need hardware to achieve this?

Because if I compare this to my own track, I feel like a total douche, haha

no you dont need hardware. you can mix and master with all software. but its mostly all in the mix. if you get an ace mix and you want it better then just pay someone to master it. you can get someone to master a track for dirt cheap. theres a guy doing it for 10 quid on the first page.

Yeah, no fancy hardware will suddenly make your tune sound amazing. Work on practicing your mixdowns and do some research into the mastering process and what it can potentially add to your tune once it's been mixed down sufficiently.

I use saussage fattener & iZotope 5 to master my tracks..


Maybe I need to try something else?

Do you have the right treatment and monitors for mastering? Try and get the best mix you possibly can, and you will learn this over time as your ears adjust.. you won't be able to get perfect mixes right from the beginning and like everyone yes this is frustrating but keep at it and you will get it!

It's a lot less about the plugins than you think, it is more about experience and knowing exactly where to cut and why.

I got the rockets 8 rp 2. But it isn't my room..
It's the loudness/Fatness of the track that isn't at a good level.
BUT what frustrates me the most is, you think you are doing everthing right.
You're following the rules that are written al over the place, but it still sucks hehe..

Wasn't meant to be a funny comment - if I'm listening to a track and I want it louder/quieter, that's what the volume control is for

Rules are only there for a rough guideline, the problem is a lot of people take this too serious and think, because it is a kick i should do this, but the reality is every kick is different therefor needs different treatment, if you understand what I mean!

And look up the different between mix and master!! Mastering is not something that is done at home on a serious level.

Sausage Fattener is a gimmicky saturation tool. Those types of things are best used sparingly in several places rather than just thrown on the master bus and driven and call it a day. Doing subtle processing like that to every sound is how it will become fatter and louder over time. You can't expect to put a plugin on the master and fatten up the whole tune. Doing so can make it seem "louder", but it's really not.

Hardware is not needed no, but it can make things easier since you can drive analogue sources well into the red and it won't make it sound like shit like it does in the digital realm. It's not a one stop solution though. The same use of subtlety applies.

I didn't check your link, but keep in mind the tracks you're referencing have been mastered, and might be from an analogue source such as vinyl, which will make it sound even more different.
Wub is right on suggesting to turn down their tracks to match yours. Otherwise it will trick your ears. When theirs are lowered to your unmastered level, they should sound relatively similar in terms of the levels of all elements of the track. Then it's just a matter of turning your track volume up when necessary.
