Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
some constructive criticism....
Ultronic- cool idea. Seems like the first half is a little too compressed which makes it sound a little drowned in bass. Maybe sidechain your bass and guitar riffs to your drum hits to let them cut through the mix more. Very interesting though
mthrfnk- wow this must be the revival of the guitar or something. Pretty catchy riffs. The only thing that kinda bothers me is that your snare’s white noise doesn’t really fade out. I think the snare’s tail should fade out more. Also the snare needs more 200 hz!!! Not nearly as punchy as I want it to be. Your riffs are great, maybe you could add some variation to your synth bass. I like the one you use though a lot.
Darj- great arrangement and vibes and everything. I just think the song is too compressed/limited. It feels like a wall of bass is hitting me and never ends. Maybe through a volume LFO on the sub or something… just things to consider. The song is great, I just wish it had more dynamics in the audio. It almost sounds too polished/level if you get my drift.
here's a new WIP. i've got writer's block and don't know where to take the song. I want the song to drop heavy, like some drumstep womps and wobbles. Not sure what synth patch "fits" the tune though. Was thinking some flux pavilion high pitched patches but idk. what do yall think? also i know bascially 0 music theory so if anyone has advice on the melody i would appreciate that too.

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
sorry bro my bad, I'm quite new to posting in these forums and wasn't being intentionally rude/ignorant. I have read the general forum rules, where can I find the topic rules? I've found the post right at the start of this thread just now that says about giving feedback to others first and also about how to post your tracks with correct headers. Is this what you meant or is there somewhere else I should be looking?

Give at least 3 piece of feedback to people who posted before you. Post your tune on a soundcloud player by using the "[ soundcloud ]your track's URL[ /soundcloud ]" to make it hotlink on the forum. Don't forget to make a constructive feedback. English is not my native language and I understood it at the first read.

@mtl6 i like the uprise?! feeling this happy dnb you know what i mean hm the hi hat work shuffles nice but i think you should take your main melody down some db and bring the rest more in the front this could really became a nice tune just add some punch to your drums and bring this sub more in the front i guess its one octave to deep
@darj
haha great as sai before the constant sub can get to much but if you ad a nice break in the middle this tune will be great or just take the sub out at some point (love the vocals)
@inthecrowed really nice vibe love the vocals even more haha here and there little bit muddy but i always take vibe over mixdown i think its bassdrum and sub or something but i really feel the vibe
i am little bit ashamed that i made it but on the other hand i like it its some generic stuff maybe someone feels it

@Budspencertron Nothing to be ashamed of! This isn't really so generic, I'd say the only thing it really needs is a boost on the higher frequencies. Good stuff overall, mate.
@mtl6 What you have so far sounds great, I don't see how you can go heavy after such a light intro, but I do like how you let the sub play out at the end. That would sound great for a few more bars, imo.
@darj Always producing quality tracks, big ups mate. This track is very easy going. I think you can lighten up on the bass a tad bit, and bring out a little more brightness. Less is more, I love the minimalist sound! Big ups once again!
I just got Massif =3
Still trying to learn my way around it, but heres a quickie that I've thrown together.

@mtI6-tight production, if you wanna get that flux pavillion kinda sound I would recommend playing around with your synth a bit and try and find some sounds that are a bit more distorted and dirty-at the moment I think it sounds a little to clean and innocent...maybe that's just my taste though! Also if you want it to pack a bit more progression try throwing in some minor notes (the black keys on the keyboard) as this usually makes the melodies sound a bit more interesting. Like I said though, its a tight production-especially feeling the last little section.
@Budspencerton-yo this is nice man! I'm really feeling that old school benga style bassline. I'm only listening in my headphones atm as I don't have my good speaker set up going currently, I really like all the elements and the riddim itself but the be careful of the levels-The bass feels like it could be a little too wide and flabby and kind of spreads across the whole mix and tends to dampen the drums and other parts. Don't get me wrong-the bass sounds are sick, its just I think maybe the sub may be too overpowering. Sorry I don't have a great technical knowledge as I'm quite new to this too but I hope that explains things-other than that tho I'm feelin it man. Would like to hear how it progresses. Oh and finally-crank those bongo hits-sick!
-@pyrez-hey man that's some headbanging shit you got goin right there-intro goes in hard but don't feel it's maintained when the drums start to hit-try and beef up the kick and snare hits so that they cut through the mix and stand out. I sometimes layer my drums a bit-makes them more interesting and louder in the track. Feeling those squelches though-eerie sounds bro, the track itself is a banger, just feels like the drums need more weight to bring that drop up to scratch when its a dancefloor!
If anyone wants me to elaborate on what I've said ^^ feel free to ask!
Here's the first beat I've made in Logic-it's not mastered whatsoever yet, strictly headphone bizness-some of the snares may be a little too harsh but it will get sorted when it's mastered soon! Thanks in advance:

to your tune the drum work is good but i think the sub is to unclean atm just keep it below 80 i guess and make a nice punchy bassdrum with some power over 80 and some crackle on top and i would make a long reverb on the stabs maybe in chain with a delay and try to find a element for the space between the stabs like a groal or a voice
i know what you mean i guess its the overpowering of the sub and bass maybe i figure something out because the original wav doesnt miss so much hi end as the soundcloud missesPyrez wrote:@Budspencertron Nothing to be ashamed of! your tune has on the other hand lots of high end haha i would try to make the sounds dirtier and by making this unsharpen the high ends little bit and compared to the other tunes take the hi hats little bit down or see how they sound when you make the rest dirtier

@Budspencerton: Cheers bro, likewise useful feedback. I agree the bass on my tune is the area that needs the most work and it's the area I know least about! Just gonna start experimenting in the next couple weeks tho and see how it turns out. What do u produce on out of interest? Would be cool to chat to some other Logic users

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
@Sine69 holy shit dude those reeses are sounding super tight. Nice vibe.
@mthrfnk I like the way you mixed the guitars and wobbles together. The drums could use a little bit of work though. Maybe try sidechain compression to get that snare punching through because I can barely hear it punching through the mix.
@Ultronic Nice ideas in there man, the drums sound a little distorted though.
Here's the song I'm still working on, thoughts?

I was going to make this for an EP I was going to do, but I decided to hold it off until I feel that I'm good enough for that kind of thing. Anyway, thanks in advance for any feedback. (It's Dubstep, yo.)

@Sine69 Reeses sound super tight, chilled vibe, but heavy.
@mthrfnk I like the guitar, make the drums have life, bring essence to them and then it should be better, work on eqing and cutting frequencies.
@Ultronic Like the idea you got going, but drums are distorted and messy sounding.

Feedback for others:
@ZankUSA Dark intro man, using the Urban vocals pack I see
I'd turn the volume down on the sample a little - it seems a little out of place. Bass and perc is really nice, both sit quite well in the mix. No other suggestions tbh, nice job
@Revival Cool intro, nice white noise stuff. I love the vocal bit, is that a sample or you? Drop is really nice. The transition to the breakdown is too sudden, perhaps keep one element from the previous section (eg Hats) to tie the two together. I feel the breakdown also goes on a little too long, with the drums. Really nice track man, followed on SC.
@goochrock13 Nice tribal feel to the intro. Nice style man, percussion is really tight. I don't really have any suggestions, you seemed to have nailed the track, just finish up the mixing and mastering
Something I was messing with today, should I finish it?
Soundcloud
Track was mixed on headphones, and very roughly mastered, some things probably sound shitty on other peoples systems.
Any comments, feedback and plays/comments on SoundCloud is really appreciated
Thanks.

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
@mthrfnk yeah that sample is actually my friend, I ran his voice through a vocoder that was connected to massive to modulate it. I know that that breakdown is way too long and I can't think of anything else to make the two gel together :/
Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
mthrfnk
Yea bruv, the vocals sound a bit to loud, going to lower it to around -2db, they sit at .2 right now.

Nice, it sounds really good. As I said try and carry through elements such as the hats or a melody. Maybe even a subbomb and then filtering the melody back in?Revival wrote:@mthrfnk yeah that sample is actually my friend, I ran his voice through a vocoder that was connected to massive to modulate it.
