dubstep 12"s aren't economical

eleven dollars plus shipping for 2 tracks? c'maaaaaan! I've mostly just been buying virtually every dubstep cd that comes out, plus the occasional flacs (lossy compression is the devil). I've got 12"s of some of my favorites. I wish more labels would do like skull disco and release compilations of all their stuff.

Since when is dj-ing supposed to be cheap? Debt kinda goes with the territory. 12"s are still the best way to hear/play the music, IMO.

(As with dub), dubstep doesn't typically lend itself well to an album oriented format. It seems kinda forced when it does happen, and more for distribution reasons than aesthetic/artistic. I think more direct digital-to-consumer releases a'la Ramadanman is a very good way to reach folks not rocking vinyl, and should be more promoted.
Can't say I long for albums as it is though, unless they entire body of work is to be considered as such. The album as a collection of singles is pretty dead IMHO.
As for "economnical", it's all about how much actual cash ends up at the hand of the artist as far as I'm concerned.

heh well let me tell you something.... Here in canada.... Wax is expensive.... Going to give you an example here... Generally the shops here charge 16.99 or 18.99 EACH and that does not include tax. If you include tax on 16.99 it comes to about 20.92.... Lately I have been ordering my dubstep tracks directly from the UK. So even though i do a currency conversion as well as including shipping it comes to about 12-13 dollars (Taxes included) ... which is a mighty steal!!!.... At the same time my record bag is more unique then some of the other dubstep dj's out here. It'll be at least 6-8 months before the shops even carry any of the big tunes thats in the scene right now.
so no excuses!!!
so no excuses!!!
what is everyone gonna do when they stop making vinyl? better get with the times...I love it as much as the next guy, but don't be so naive.

Vinyl is nice but not everyone owns a deck, be nice to see releases on different formats regularly.
The attitude that vinyl should be the only format for dubstep is a little weak, after all this scene is supported by people all over the world and they deserve to be able to get their hands on releases at a fair price.
£20 is silly for a couple of tracks, whatever way you look at it.
As long as the producer gets paid for ther work it really should matter what format the music is on.
just a thought

They've said that they would stop making vinyl almost 2 decades ago.... And as we see it today vinyl is still alive... I'll be honest with you... at first I used to get all my material in cd media or released on mp3, however I'll explain to as to why I focus more on vinyl releases.cure wrote:what is everyone gonna do when they stop making vinyl? better get with the times...I love it as much as the next guy, but don't be so naive.
Some may say its all about the "feel".... well true enough... however the problem I have with it specifically is the media itself. CD's contain a film that realistically has a guaranteed lifespan of about 10 years. After that the film can and will eventually deteriorate. Essentially the air we breath ends up eating the film, So you would see a discoloration mainly a circular pattern... Its often called oxygenization.... Without this film... your cd's are useless
Mp3's on the other hand... Well like any file on a computer they can be easily corrupted by various parasites on a computer
So both these forms of media are way more sensitive to being damaged then vinyl is. You can easily take a piece of vinyl from the 1940's (as long as its in good condition) and be able to play it... There is no way in hell that cd media will be able to last that long...
