Subwoofer gets very hot?

So, I know its normal for the back of ur sub to get warm. But when im playing at high volume for about 20 minutes
my subwoofer gets very hot to the touch. Like it hurts if you keep your hand on it.
I just got a new amplifier for it and installed it because the old amplifier stopped working. It sounds fine it just gets
pretty hot sometimes, and gives off kind of a new plastic smell.
Is it ok? is there something i can do to prevent this? (other than not playing it really loud) Because i never go past 50 percent
on the main volume or the sub's volume.

Btw I have the Klipsch Promedia 2.1's

how high is your amp turned up? if its up to much you could be sending a clipped signal which will make your sub very hott and fry your voice coils.

edit: nvm their klipsche promedias. they should be good if they're at a normal level. my old ones used to get a bit hot too

But sometimes if im playing them for a little while at a pretty high volume (about 40-48 percent. sub and mainvolume) If i put my hand on the back near the (+, -) Connectors it kind of burns and i need to take my hand off. Im worried that this is too hot. I got a new amplifier for it because the old one was messed up and sound was distorted. And it did this also. You sure this is normal? did that happen with yours?

mine used to get a bit too hott for touch too. they just run hott. probably wont last that long but thats a design flaw, not an isolated problem. just keep the sub at a medium level, don't blast it all the time.

yeah id say so. like i said your just going to have to avoid cranking the sub. if you crank it your not getting an accurate representation of the song anyway.

but i can remember worrying about my promedias when i had them too. i only had mine for a month though. i ended up returning them and putting the $150 towards some real monitors, but i did like they for computer speakers.

but yeah they just crammed that amp into the little sub enclosure and it just doesn't seem to cool properly. amps can get too hot for you to touch it without damaging them, but much past that and they will slowly but surely fry.

so again, just be weary with your gain. set it to a reasonable gain and feel the amp after 15 mins. see if the lower gain is helping the heat situation. also if your that worried consider putting a fan on the ground blowing to the side on the back of the sub. could cool your feet and your sub, so might not be a bad thing after all.

take them to the shop where you bought them , no electrical device should ever get that hot and smell like burning plastic. they should give you a full refund even if it's design error.

If they're a halfdecent shop they'll probably give you a new sub or a refund otherwise you can sue them.
If you got it 2nd hand just stop using it , better to have no sub then a burnd down house.

Yeah it might have been a little worse because i didnt have enough ventilation =P I moved them away from the wall and gave them around 6 inches on the side's and 10 inches on the back to let them breathe. And it really only got hot when playing at 50 percent or higher. When playing it with a lower volume like you said it only got warm. Also i opened the sub to see if anything on the amp was fried and it all looks fine to me but your absolutely right. They just crammed that mofo in there! Thanks for your replies:) Also I am considering the fan thing. I might buy a little fan for it=]
