Re: NYC 4/21 - UNSOUND BASS MUTATIONS w/ 2562 live, Distal..
exactly. there's no reason to assume someone playing out live stems from a track isn't going to have done some mastering on them, at least a little bit of EQ and tweaking. nobody just goes out and plays completely raw shit where they dont even have an idea how loud each piece is going to be. at least i would hope nobody would actually do that. that'd be some real amateur shit. what i was saying was i've been to countless shows with live PA's etc, and it's almost never been a "problem"

My opinion is biased really. I went to check out Meat Beat Manifesto at Santos Party House one time, they had a live set up, played from their controllers. Every time the high frequencies came I had to cover my ears because it truly was painful to listen. Had to end up leaving midway cuz I couldn't take it. I guess they couldn't tell because they are older, maybe their hearing is shot already.
I then saw that interview with Jason at Transition Mastering on 'Bassweight' and put 2 and 2 together. One time is too many for me so ever since then when I see that someone will play live when it comes to any edm event I turn very cautious.
Thanx for the info. I wasn't going to miss this anyway.

I am reasonably certain that between 2562, the Tsunami Bass guys, Dave Q, and the venue's own sound staff, we'll be ok. It's no one's first rodeo, as they say. Although I guess I'm not surprised that bass is being discussed obsessively over here
Here's what Dave said about his setup in our recent interview:
'DH: Yes, New York will be the first live set I've done in North America, and will feature all my own music, rearranged on the fly, different versions...my setup will be a laptop and controller, maybe a lil hardware synth I've been using. Some stuff you'll know, some stuff you won't know!'

Looking forward to Saturday! Going to be ridiculous.

seconded. also, anyone who knows 2562's music knows that he is about as meticulous about mixdowns as anyone you will ever see.
he does not take sound lightly!

BASS MUTATIONS VISUAL PROJECT ANNOUNCED
A visual program has been added to Bass Mutations on April 21, showing the ways in which visual artists have helped shape the way we imagine bass music. Curated by "Big Up Magazine" Editor-In-Chief Katya Guseva in collaboration with Dave Q from Dub War NYC, it will take place in a movie theatre adjacent to the dancefloor at the venue for the night, IndieScreen. Live audio from Bass Mutations performers such as 2562, Teeth, Sepalcure, Distal, Throwing Snow and Nguzunguzu will provide the soundtrack.
The international array of featured artists includes Brooklyn-based Sougwen, Takafumi Tsuchiya's work from Tokyo, Berlin-based Turkish artist Ali M. Demirel, London's Shantell Martin, Ashes 57 and Benny Ill, New Yorker Raz Mesinai, LA's Subtranca, Brazil's Ivy Abujamra, Nicolas Dufoure from France, Miguel Vega from LA/San Diego and Zurich-based Francois Chalet. All this has given a whole new dimension to the Bass Mutations program we're very excited about.
