Some people have to realise that the general listening public don't actually know what a VST plugin or a preset is.
I think the tune's bad. I'm a producer myself and I didn't know that it was a preset. Still doesn't hinder my judgement or blur my opinions on the track at all. Its a big big tune and I'm sure the majority of people who hear it on my shows or sets wouldn't disagree.
Large up Skream and 2Dee..... A big tune's a big tune.

as a producer, i think the fact Skream took a simple preset and turned it into a fucking banger is amazing!

of course a big tune is a big tune no matter how it was made. i still think a bit of discussion "how" these big tunes are produced can't do any harm...
and you're all right by saying "in the end nobody will f-ing care how it was made but in the club it just sounds big and baangs the shit out of the speakers"...
still, (and this is only my personal opinion on a lot of current dubstep production) a lot of tunes just sound like tools, quick mixes, not like tunes that were crafted with every detail just right.... and yeah, some tunes don't need to take hours of production (you can make sick tunes in less than an hour if you are a skilled producer).
anyway, big tune, that's all.

The framework for a big tune can be laid down in an hour but think about how much bigger it could be with a bit more time and dedication...That is a general point!!
Not much thinking outside the box goes on a lot of the time and this is probably why we see a lack of albums....I think when extra effort is put in it really shows....Distance, Boxcutter, Burial have all made lasting and very strong albums and the tunes all took time to develop rather than just throwing something down, exporting it and AIMing it to all their friends from Rinse (or whatever). The strucutre and development on Distance's album demonstrates perfectly how you can make a club banger track work in an album format where it will last longer and have sustained plays whereas Skream works well on a 6 track EP designed for 2 minute DJ mixes......All good but doesn't translate to album format (not forgetting albums is where the long term money is rather than 12").
As for the arguments about DnB being over engineered etc.....I think that Breakage, Paradox and Equinox have a far greater degree of soul than a lot of earlier dnb and some of Evol Intents tracks (red soil!) are more emotive than lesser engineered stuff. I don't buy into that argument at all....The One is sick but after 2 mins of the drop it is getting time to mix it, imagine if Mampi had developed it, variated it andengineered it into a masterpiece for the dancefloor and the ipod/headphones.

I don't think they're the ones that are really heavy on the production though - it's the midrangey club bangers where people really spend days tweaking multiband compressors to get it as in your face as possible. (And yes, Equinox, Paradox and Breakage are bloody good.threnody wrote:As for the arguments about DnB being over engineered etc.....I think that Breakage, Paradox and Equinox have a far greater degree of soul than a lot of earlier dnb
Oops, sorry, turned into a DnB rant, I'll go home now...

I can't believe how much effort some of the guys here put in just to say that they don't like a fucking track.
Skream, release it and make some of us happy and get yourself some pocket money.
To the haters, you don't have to play/buy/listen (to) it so why don't you just shut up?
Thanks.
Good damnit, sometimes I wish I would have those kinds of problems you guys have.

I'm not a massive Skream fan but I thought this was the best tune he's done to date
What's with all this "boo hoo, it's cheating" bullshit? What about all these people using sine waves - it's been done guys use a new waveform ffs.
Fair play to him, I've never found a preset that was worth using without substantial tweaking and he's created a good tune, so maybe you should be shutting the fuck up yeah?
