that's why I think the police will get involved, they can turn a blind eye to thousands of people laughing at a picture with writing on it, but actually going out of your way quite considerably to deliberately harass someone it's really quite sad.wub wrote:Mate, no it's fucking not. Having a laugh on the Internet, fair play we all do it from time to time.
But messing with someone IRL over something like this? Not okay.

Re: Down's Syndrome Girl Meme is...offended by herself
in this situation id say so, obiously if someone say turned up and started mocking them thats different and i would think thats sickening but its just some free food being sent to their house. If they go online they can look through hundreds of pictures of people they dont know mocking their kids condition which must be horrible
Edit: i wrote wouldnt instead of would which made me seem like a dick

Re: Down's Syndrome Girl Meme is...offended by herself
she can turn off her computer but if she's getting potatoes in the post, as funny as that sounds sat behind a computer, it's harsh having it brought to your door

To be honest, normally I do not laugh with people with disabilities, especially not when I see them in real life. I feel sorry for them.
Sometimes I do laugh though on the internet; who doesn't laugh when they see some of the classics (fenga pappit, count to potato, ching chong potato, ...).
Also i got mixed feeling with the posting potatoes thing. It's a bit harsh indeed.
But you know, what did the parents expect when they decided to take this to the press and do an interview etc?

For the thick cunts carrying on this spineless shit to stop their moronic online antics. However naive they were, the parent were in the right to try and protect their family from abuse. It also sheds light on how far these communities go to get their 'lols'.NilsFG wrote:But you know, what did the parents expect when they decided to take this to the press and do an interview etc?

It isn't about how they were right or not; they indeed have a point to protect their daughter from abuse.Pedro Sánchez wrote:For the thick cunts carrying on this spineless shit to stop their moronic online antics. I just mean; what do you expect when you do a whole interview with a "big" newspaper about a matter like this? More abuse.
Like I said; Streisand effect.

Well, what better way to start a campaign to stop such vile garb than the most read paper in the country? I suppose that was the thinking, like I said they may have been naive.NilsFG wrote:It isn't about how they were right or not; they indeed have a point to protect their daughter from abuse.Pedro Sánchez wrote:For the thick cunts carrying on this spineless shit to stop their moronic online antics. the best way is to just ignore it, if it steps beyond the internet or gets too much online and becomes personal, let the police deal with it. It's like these memorial pages, as much as it is horrible to have them trolled, make them private it's only one click. Trolls see the internet as their playground, it would be like handing drunk people their car keys when they leave the pub or leaving your door open at night in an area full of burglars. once upon a time you could trust people to not come into your house at night and help themselves, not anymore

everything you can think of (for the most part) is online and all it takes is a google search to find it; you can find murder, rape, 4chan and whatever else. My point is that you end up getting de-sensitized over time and it genuinly can change your morals, sense of humor and personallity and most of the time its for the worse. I find myself always questioning weather iv gone too far with internet humor and occasionaly offend someone without even intending for it to happen.
I really dont understand the people who think its acceptable to troll a dead persons facebook though like how the fuck can anyone think thats remotely funny
Re: Down's Syndrome Girl Meme is...offended by herself
ye there is still a line for me, admittedly is changing, but it's still there. All of the gore threads just make me not really that grossed out, I actually saw a picture of a guy who had taken a shotgun bullet to the face and someone had captioned it and I laughed and I know that's bad. The problem is the next generation who were born with it, the line will be pushed further and further. I'm not gonna lie, I laughed at the potatoes in the post thing, then a few seconds later I thought to myself wtf am I doing that's actually horrible, but because all of my friends use 4chan and I'm on it as much as any other website (and I'm online a lot), it's not really clear where the internet stops.
A friend of mine has a young brother and he played WoW till 9am the other day. His mum only knows because when she got up to go to work he was still awake drinking monster and gaming. His bedroom is now the computer room, he has actually moved his bed into the computer room. He's 12. Ye it's crazy he's allowed to do it, but he throws the biggest bitch fits if he's not allowed to game, and when they take away his laptop, he just watches tv. So they ban tv, he just sits there.

i never found the meme that funny, but that picture of her with the laptop and her stone faced mum cracked me up
Re: Down's Syndrome Girl Meme is...offended by herself
I still don't get why they are sending her potatoes... Did I miss something, or is that another one of those internet things? (Maybe I should point out that I've never been on 9gag or 4chan or whatever)
Re: Down's Syndrome Girl Meme is...offended by herself
he meme started years ago when someone posted her picture with the caption 'i can count to potato', then there was a picture of a chinese man with downs syndrome and a caption of 'and a one and a two and a ching chong potato' and then it kind of went from there
Re: Down's Syndrome Girl Meme is...offended by herself
Ah I get it know, haha. Thanks

just saw this
Don't feed the trolls
so her mum is looking at pictures of her daughter counting to potato in front of her? Surely she could wait till she's not looking at the computer screen or *crazy thoughts* not look at the pictures of it in the first place.“Heidi has told me she is very upset by the sites and she turns her head away when we have them on the computer screen.”

What you find funny ≠ what you feel is ethical. Can't help that. This sorta shit (and reality TV shows, for the large part) have replaced the colosseum in many ways. Most of the people outraged at this meme will be the same chimpanzees who bounce up and down laughing hysterically at people who can't sing/are possibly trolling on the x-factor (or any number of those kind of shows). What's the difference? Everyone's laughing at someone else's humiliation.
Harsh finding out you're a meme though. Even harsher sending potatoes to the door. Can't condone that.
