Drug use and prostitution numbers are very low in the Netherlands compared too most other countries. The main
sponsors are people from other countries. But I get your point, it sends the wrong message

That's all kinds of dumb. The more potent it is, the less you need = better for your body. Which also means less chance of 'addiction'. Though that's a totally different type of addiction than heroin/cocaine. The US puts weed in the same category as heroin and coke. It's sad if other countries want to follow suit.
Also there's always been highly potent weed, but now it's just easier to find.

this pass has more implications for dutch marijuana users than tourists. aside from paying to get official documentation, coffeeshops will have to record how often you are there and how much you purchase, this information will be submitted to th gov on a regular basis. down the line, should you need employment insurance,welfare, healthcare (its a privitised system here no NHS style medical) or other government serivce you can be sure that you will be cross referenced. do you think they will let you keep a membership if youre on any kind of government assistance?... what about travel abroad?. if the gov submits this list to others (say the USA) who dont want admitted drug users into their country or in some middle eastern countries where even having it in your blood can be viewed as posession, travel could become much more difficult.

Most of this is the result of political pressure from the usa. no political parties campaigned on this issue bfeore the last election, it arose out of the coaliton, members of which had very strong ties to right wing politcial groups in the usa. It is my belief that the likelhood of this becoming permanent or even introduced in Amsterdam has diminished with the collapose of the govt. I suspect a new coaliton will find this to be a less pressing matter, than the extremely difficult economic situation the contry is currently in. In the meantime, anyone coming to Amsterdam for the next year has absolutely no probelm going to the coffeeshops.
