"One of the UK’s finest and most enlightened digital labels" - Loudat

"Always a haven for upcoming talent, Slime Recordings continue to generate heat" - Juno Download

Slime celebrates reaching it's 30th release by returning to where it all began on the sunny shores of Bristol and welcoming to the label a new resident to the city in the form of the hugely talented young producer Crump. Versatility is the key ingredient to Crump's recipe for musical invention, with a rich combination of sounds, styles and textures being invested into each of his productions.

'Upstream' opens up proceedings with a hypnotic house beat and lush pads ushering in stacatto percussion. Modulated bass stabs intertwine the rhythm adding some serious swing to the track, before the ethereal chords draw you deeper into the groove.

'Distances' combines the melodic nature of the former track with a minimal flavour combining the best elements of funky, UKG, house and dubbed-out techno. Subtle synth work flows in and out of the track with a sense of guile, creeping up your cortex until you're fully horizontal.

'New Direction' takes things up a notch with a much more robust kickdrum and some dub trickery flooding the echo chamber. A reversed bassline underpins the rhythm and heavily processed vocals drift through the track like a ghost, before a skeletal piano line drives the beat home.

'Haunted Hallway' drops a subtle click drum over warm deep pads for a truly beautiful late-night roller. Short bassline rolls flow over the groove as it unfolds in unexpected ways - a wash of muted vocal here, a lick of summery guitar there - taking you on a beautiful ride to the morning light.

This one getting supported by the likes of Zed Bias and Hackman. Check out this awesome review of the EP from the Igloo Magazine crew:
I have to admit—Crump (aka Alex Crump)—is a producer that I’ve not come across before. He’s a Bristol lad with a bit of form and has just had his EP entitled Chiaroscuro released on Slime Recordings. It’s a bouncy, rolling batch of minimal house tracks with a somewhat understated feel. It’s solid though, infectious and persistent, like a puppy needing a walk.

There seems to be a unified movement at the moment away from the gut wrenching bowel twistings of the Skrillex end of the bass spectrum, towards a subtler more sophisticated approach. 4/4 beats are enjoying a resurgence (not that they ever went away), and looking back to the recent history of dance music for influence is becoming a widely accepted thing to do, as indeed it should be. This release definitely has some echoes from the past reverberating throughout its finely produced beats, but in a good way. It’s a subtle grower, the more you listen to it, the more you hear. The highlight of the bunch shows up as “Upstream,” a synth pad washed restrained house bouncer with techno ambitions. A little snapshot of the current Bristol beat sensibility. Nice work.
