Resampling
So I have searched this site up and down trying to figure out how to do this maybe I'm missing it somewhere but anyways I have been reading the production Bible about making wobble bass etc and I understand about 95% of it but one thing I don't understand is how to resample I read that it's good to do this alot when trying to make good wrinkle bad to clean it up a little so my question is how do you resample?

try looking for 'bouncing down'

Re: Resampling
resampling is litterally the process of converting your midi data into audio then fucking with it, so your freezing any effects and movement and your able to process it further with more effects or you can cut it up, re-arrange and reverse parts/all of the audio. It also means you can stop reverb tails at specific points which cleans up the mix a bit.

Re: Resampling
do you guys normally re sample at the end or as you go along? i'm pretty bad at this atm as I usually stick to MIDI!

Re: Resampling
As you go along is normally easiest but whatever works for you. If you dont know why you need to resample then you probably shouldnt do it.filtersnake wrote:do you guys normally re sample at the end or as you go along? i'm pretty bad at this atm as I usually stick to MIDI!
Re: Resampling
I'm pretty lazy so I try to make my basslines as close as possible to what's in my head without needing to bounce, lol. but if I have to then I will. usually just to save on cpu.

Re: Resampling
I find that certain things are just 500 times easier when you're dealing with a bounced audio file. You can splice it up, add multiple instances of it with various effects/EQ, etc. I also resample when layering sounds. Sometimes I'll have a nice reese, and I'll layer it with the same sound except with a 100% wet reverb signal for kind of a metallic, robotic sound; then I'll adjust the volumes of both to my liking and bounce them down as one audio track.Jeklo_ wrote:I'm pretty lazy so I try to make my basslines as close as possible to what's in my head without needing to bounce, lol. but if I have to then I will. usually just to save on cpu.

This technique is also pretty clutch for loading wav files into a sampler. Generally I find resampling is totally based off of ease of use.

yeah it seems like it offers a lot more flexibility and experimentation. dope layers that can cut off any time and such. I just gotta stop being lazy and experiment more, lol.
cool ideas though!

Re: Resampling
The only time I ever use resampling (and I deffinitely want to start using it more) is in sound design sessions when I record the output of me fucking about and listen through to cut bits out.
pitch shifting/time stretching e.t.c. can't be done with midi. Bouncing is definitely a preriquisite to this lol.
To be honest though it's not a must. It's just one way of doing stuff, don't feel like you 'have' to know how to do it to make good tunes or even decent bass. It's all about workflow and your way of doing things. Find your workflow, it may involve bouncing, but it doesn't have to.

Re: Resampling
I used to despise resampling, but it's made things 10 times easier. Bouncing to audio allows for consistency in sounds when you have a lot of modulation be it from LFO'd filters or effects that change over time. The way my bass sounds after being played for 2 seconds isn't the same as it sounds after being played for 10 seconds if I've got LFO'd notches or something automating it. It basically just makes dealing with automation incredibly easy because everything is frozen in time and can remain consistent. The load off your CPU is nice as well

This as well^
Honestly, once I started resampling more and more I look back at how I used to work without it and facepalm. Really convenient shit if you know what you're doing.
Re: Resampling
ok call me dumb but im still not grasping the concept i will look up bouncing down maybe this will help me out
Re: Resampling
so lets say i take my wobble bass export it into a wav file and fuck with it from there is that what your talking about or am i off?

Re: Resampling
resampling is just bouncing your midi to audio, what you do from there is up to you. people seem to think resampling is some kind of effect or something that instantly transforms sounds. I see things like 'learn resampling' being tossed around a lot, I don't get it lol
