hopefully they arent timewasters. their forthcomings are dope though and have had plays on radio1/rinse etc.. hmmm watch this space.

Big up, if it all turns out well make sure to tell me when it drops and I'll bag it :4:

Now that I got my cartridge in the mail today and I can finally play vinyl :U:

(That's the thing that made me happy today)

better late than never though right? ;-) Yeah I got lucky and bought a decent Stanton direct drive for really cheap from some friendly record store people. Vinyl just FEELS so much better to listen to. Something about seeing the platter start spinning and carefully dropping the needle onto the groove...it's awesome :U:

Sshhh don't ruin it for me :(

It's funny my mom was really really against me buying a turntable for the same reason, she told me she was worried that I'd waste all my money on records :i:

It aint waste though

My Mum thought DJing was a 'waste of money' until I started making money off it...after that she fully supports it and even got me a new mixer/headphones for my 21st  She'll come around :)

BTW - get yourself a recording device and record every mix practice you have. Seriously. It'll be a good learning tool when you listen back to them (tapes are wicked and cheap for this kind of thing), plus in a few years time listening back to your mixes will be jokes when you hear how far you've come.

I can't convince my mom that you can make decent cash off DJing, I think she's in denial

Still pretty cool that your mom got you a mixer and cans!
And yeah I've got just a little 2 in 2 out USB interface, but it'll do because it has my mixer can output straight into it :W: in a few months when I get a bit more decent at DJing, I'll start recording some mixes

I get to DJ my middle school dance this Friday though, I'm bringing CDJs and vinyl and everything, and my school's soundsystem is actually really nice, it's got some huge subs! I'm opening with Anti War Dub, these kids don't know what they're in for

Whilst I respect your ballsy choice of opening song, I rather feel you will learn a valuable lesson about the balance between playing what you want vs. playing what the crowd wants.

Just record you mix on your pc or mac.

Wub speaks the truth.
Don`t ruin a song for yourself.
You`re going to be playing painfully commercial music.

I know I know, I've got a bit of a game plan. "Close" by Hackman, which is a fucking amazing tune, is pretty much the same tempo as "Sexy And I know it" by LMFAO, which I can then mix into a bunch of other pop stuff. I can also escape out of that with Glut by Ramadanman, which is around 136 ish (I don't know exact BPMs because I'm doing it by ear)....either way, it's mixable, so I'll be able to strike a balance.

I'm still gonna open with anti war dub though....I gotta :)

I agree with Phigure...plus if you're cutting between overtly 'pop' dance records and the more underground stuff, the audience might have trouble following it. It's a lot easier to get people to stop dancing than it is to get them on the floor in the first place.
