Alternative to Scream 4?

Post by Lucifa » Wed May 09, 2012 11:53 pm

After a decent distortion unit to add some bite to the midrange.

Got on well with Scream 4's Fuzz and Tape setting but no longer use Reason. Gave Ohmicide demo a go, since everyone raves about it, but didn't really like its tone or interface.

Interface sucks, no doubt, always with the difficult stupid interfaces. But it really is very deep. Have to really rein it in though, or it will just get out of control, and they've included a lot of controls to do that. But it is a learner, unfortunately.

W/that said, people, apparently, are pretty psyched about fabfilter's Saturn, a multiband saturation plug.

Scream is awesome though. I feel you.

Maybe i weren't using it right but none of the distortion types were doing it for me. All sounded too messy and stodgy, probably decent for reeces but i mainly want one for a sharp, midrange buzz rather than growl.

Saturn looks decent but would prefer something a little more straight forward.

If you can't get a sharp midrange buzz with ohmicide... I don't think you are doing it right. No offense, at all.

You're just going to have to try/do it yourself, or just move on to the next plugin.

fabfilter saturn is the shizzle. really, just give it a try. especially if you use multiple instances in series on a relatively clean source. bring out the fuzz where you want it, EQ, then shape that again, EQ, rinse and repeat. you have total control over the frequencies like that.

Haha... what's funny, me not being a Reason pro or whatever... I have troubles with the Scream 4 distortion plugin. It's so easy to sound harsh or fuzz out on that thing and you don't have multiple bands to work with... That's why people usually run multiple instances of the distortion plug-in. I love Ohmicide... gives you so much more control over what you want to distort. Keep working with it and use the wet/dry mix and the cut features.

Camel Phat is another distortion plug-in that's cool.
